Sharing data in FTM

This is probably one of those things that is so simple as to make me sound retarded, but here goes. I have gradually put a lot of stuff in my Family Tree Maker, the cheap older version that was preloaded when I got the eMachine. I think it's version 4. My sister bought hers, and it's a higher number version than mine, probably with a lot more features. Mine works fine for me, and I have too many problems to risk downloading something else. But with the different versions, or even if we had the same ones, is there a way to send to each other from these programs so it will go into the one we each have, in the right places? Is that clear as mud? If you decide to tackle this, please keep it very simple, I am not a geek. And many thanks for any help you can offer.
