When you live in the north

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

this is what your house looks like in the winter. I couldn't get them all in the picture since they run along the left wall too. A few weeks ago these all fit in the corner. Now they have overtaken the porch. In the front corner of the porch I have a bench with all my seedlings under 4 grow lights. I NEED spring to get here soon.

Terry, your brugs look just great. Bet you can't wait for warm weather and getting them into the ground or big pots. I know here, I can't go any bigger than a gallon size or there is no place to put them to get light. Keep your fingers crossed and maybe this next cold wave will be our last. Nice Picture......

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glad mine got to stay in the ground and freeze back! lol. they look really good, SH. i thought i was looking at fresh collard greens at first when i opened the box this morning....hope that makes sense.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Arlene. As long as they looked FRESH that's all that counts. Sent them just the right time as we are getting a cold spell Thur. and Fri. Will never doubt you when you say it's ok to ship.
Thanks Shirley. I've been potting them up into bigger pots each day. The bigger the pot the more room they take up but I don't want them getting potbound.I think next weekend we will start the heat in the GH if we don't have any extremely cold weather in the forecast. Can't wait.

Snow,
You are doing a great job with the Brugs....I know you will be happy when you can put them outside.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

SH, once they get adjusted i think they can take fairly cold temps, maybe you can just run it some at night or something. mine didn't die until a hard frost in the 20s, under freezing for 8 hours or so. light frost injured a leaf here and there. i think they like some cool. i guess i'm trying to say i don't think some 40s will bother them at all.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

SH, your brugs look sooo good, you have done a great job with them. Hoping for spring coming early in your neck of the woods,

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

SH, I keep teh temps at 45*F for most of the winter. I bumped it up to 50 a couple of weeks ago, and of course the heat mats are on.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene, Today it was 20 degrees outside which is about the average.Even if I kept the thermostat at 40 or 50 it would run steady.I'm hoping for next weekend as Thur. and Fri. it's supposed to go down to Zero or below. Hoping it will warm up after that.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

SH, i can't imagine that cold. last year we had a week, 2 nights at 16F, never above 40s in the day and 20s the rest of the nights. we ran out of gas, lol, and who could get gas? the funny part, over the last 4 years i have only turned the heater on 4-5 times, turn on the oven to take the chill off sometimes in the mornings, the place holds heat pretty well. can't imagine zero.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene, I can't imagine only putting a heater on 4 or 5 times. LOL. We have the woodstove going 24/7 from Oct.- April. Keep the furnace set at 65 too so the other end of house won't get cold. It's actually been mild this year. Last year we had several days of 10 - 20 below zero. That's when you have to put something over your face or it will take your breath away when you go out.The coldest I've seen here was - 38 about 4 yrs ago.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

egads SH... can't even imagine -38

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Snow ,our winters are usually just lke that, with snow measured in feet -not inches. This has been the best winter!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

CC, this winter has been a very good winter.I don't know if we should worry about that or be happy. The whole east coast needs water real bad. There are still people up here with no water from last summer.Without the usual high amount of snowfall it doesn't look promising for wells this summer.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

SH, your Brugmansias look great. Mine have mostly whitish leaves because of the low temperatures in the greenhouse.

We plan the get the greenhouse started coming week. On Tuesday Weather supposed to become much warmer. My fingers are itching, I cannot wait any longer - I must get started!

But today we got another 20cm of snow. At the moment, making it 41cm.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Thanks Monika. I'm running out of room though and can't wait to put them in the GH.
Wow! you are getting a lot of snow. It will be so nice when we can see green grass.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

speaking of green grass I have to cut mine staring to look a little unruley

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh for the smell of freshly mowed grass. I'm afraid it will be another 2-3 months here. Of course, the weeds will grow like crazy anyway.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

He just HAD to say that didn't he? Ours is nice and green, but not growing right now, thank goodness.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Yup, looks like Pete's trying to get a rise out of the northerners. We have nice green grass too. It just happens to be under 6" of snow at the moment.LOL

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

We got plenty of snow last night but hurray...... its raining!!!!!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

We need rain very badly. News last night said the whole east coast has a severe drought problem. They are really worried. The reservoirs are going dry.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

YIKES! Just checked the 5 day forecast. it is going to be 75 here today and in the MID TO LOWER 20S Wednesday night!!! say it aint so......it's gonna kill my stuff that's coming back so nicely!!!!!!!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Arlene, get out the remay and cover, cover, cover. Might go see if you can borrow a few smudge pots, lol.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh no Arlene! I hope they're wrong.Better start collecting the sheets and towels just in case.

Arlene,
I hate to tell you but the low here on Wed.and Thrusday morning is going to be 20º....gonna be here just long enough to burn everything and then move on.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Great job Snow. Those look great. I have about 12 sitting in my dining room window with my seeds I am trying to get sprouted, which are coming up very slowly. And snow is exactly what they are predicting for us. It reached almost 60 degrees today and now they have us in a winter storm warning for tonight/tomarrow with almost blizzard conditions. Just got rid of the last 13+" we got and here comes another 8-10".
Got to love it!

Hamilton, Canada
