I guess he missed the highway exit
Spring, where are you........hope you didnt get lost
Monika,
I am out here looking around the corner at you. I will be sneaking up on you soon. Leave me an pie on the window ledge and I will get there earlier. LOL
Monika,
That is just beautiful...spring will be here very soon.
That is beautiful but I see what you mean - that definitely means you can't put the brugs out this weekend! LOL Maybe next weekend!!
The pie is waiting! Hope you have your snow shoes on or big stalks. Beautiful ? I can stand the sight of snow any longer.
Monika, it is beautiful, but it looks very cold. We only get one or two small snows here each winter.
I am also getting tired of the sight of snow. We got 40 cm in three days and strong winds on the top of it. I think we got hit by the same cool-wave that hit you, Monika. I heard traffic was heavily affected in Germany too :)
Monika, post here, when you start to see spring come from your hill top. You are higher above sealevel, than me and have the great eagels-view to spot the spring long before any other *lol*
We usually have tons of snow,we are breaking records for the least snowfall this year...
Us too, CC. Warmest winter since they started keeping records. Next week might change the standing though. Monika, your picture is pretty, but I sure know what you mean about the sight of snow. I don't care to see anymore for a long while. Like next December 24.
Monika, That looks like my back yard.LOL. It rained yesterday so we only have about 8" now on the ground. Driving home tonight it was snowing very heavy at the top of the mountain.Could'nt hardly see the road. Yup, I'm ready for spring.
Next week on March 1, its begin of the springtime. Its now saturday morning and when looking out of the window all I see is snow snow snow and.... snowing like crazy. I°ll bet you Tonny that I will sitting on top of our mountain to watch if spring is coming! He will make everything green in the valleys but I have to wait. He must be an old man, having a hard time coming uphill, because he comes to me very late.
Spring so soon...I can't believe how many mild freezes we have had this february. Burned the leaves off of my hybrids a few times already. Luckily, just the top leaves as it wasn't too horribly cold....for the most part anyway.
Monika, I live at a high elevation too in the White Mountains of NH. I guess their named that for a reason. LOL
It's depressing to drive a few miles down the road and see yards with Daffodils coming up and I am still with snow and ice in my yard. We are about three weeks behind everyone else that lives in town.
Its very depressive, snowhermit. Mme Blin brings in March her brugs out of the winterquartier into her garden, while I here still do count snowflakes. The cherry tree blossoms appear here at a time, when you can see the small fruits already on the trees - just a few miles downhill. At the moment there is spring only on my desktop.I loaded a picture, made in spring 1997, when the wild cherry trees started flowering and buttercups turned the pastures yellow.
I'm hoping to start heating my greenhouse next week if the weather does'nt decide to take a turn for the worse and turn really cold.Last year we started it up a few weeks earlier but it was so expensive to heat I decided to wait for March 1st this year. Weather has been mild so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.I'm a much nicer person when I'm out working in the greenhouse. LOL
I was hoping to start my greenhouse but under these circumstances I'll better wait. A while ago it was storming, thundering, lightning and unbelievable, snowing like crazy. It has added 10 more cm. If it would not be so expensive I would keep the greenhouse heated and live in it.
I must have been a green bug (or louse) in my former life. Since my childhood I loved flowers, animals, nature. I could not live in a city. I rather arrange myself with the snow.
being a southerner, I have no idea how you northerners do things. Where are your plants now if they aren't in the greenhouse?
tiG, it isn't a pretty picture up here. Plants in every window, tables with lights, plants on the floor with more lights, and a huge watering problem. Seems like I have to do it daily because the furnace pulls the moisture from the pots. I've finally got the gnats under control, but am having some spider mite problems in the plants in the bay window. All the others are doing well. Still have seeds from Eric coming up that I started in November. Have to stop at some point because I'm totally out of room. If I could just get to the greenhouse to work, it would help, but with lows next week in the single digits, I'm like Terry, just can't afford to keep the heat on out there. Heck, with it that cold, I'm not sure I could keep it warm enough anyway, so I'll just plug along. Monika I sure hope your weather changes soon for you. We could all do with a good dose of warm weather that will last for months on end. In a few weeks, I'll be living in the greenhouse and Jim will have to go out for lunch. :-)
As Brugie says, it's not a pretty site in my house. DH moved my big light into the middle of the sunporch since they outgrew the corner. Two more holes in the ceiling. We can't use the back door anymore since the Brugs have overtaken 1/2 of the sunporch including in front of the door.To grill a steak I have to go out the front door and walk around the house to the back deck where the grill is.We must really love these plants. LOL
I must say I am even more impressed seeing your hybrids and then seeing the snow you have to contend with. Trully remarkable.
I have two greenhouses. One is about 100m away from the house and not used during winter. The other is build onto the house. We can go from the house directly into the greenhouse. It is isolated with 16mm acryl glass and kept free of frost by a electric Van. All my brugs stand here, and we have a small path to reach the greenhouse door to go outside and another small path for my own use to reach all the plants. Average Temperature in the greenhouse is between +5 - +8°C.
Sorry to tell you this Monika, but we sent our winter over to you this year.
It has not gotten below 9 degrees all winter, and last month has been 30's,40's and 50's daytime. Love it. Only less than a month until spring, then we will probably get winter!!ha

TiG,
Being up north in colder regions we have learned to adjust to the winter....NOT! Jeanne and Liz are on the far west coast of Canada and have weather much like England. In central Canada (southern Ontario and southern Quebec) we've had minimal snow...in fact not more than 3 inches, but the temps are now bitter cold due to winds coming off the Great Lakes. In fact we have had more rain than snow and winter never really started here until December 25 this year and that snow melted right away.
I grow more and more tropical plants every year and have learned how to incorporate them into the decor of every room during winter...at some point I think everyone who grows a vast number of plants needs a greenhouse, not just for overwintering, but to be able to keep up with the amount of plants at various stages of development.

Geez, and I worried about 1 week in the teens!! It is supposed to be cold (20F) for a couple of days next week, but should start warming up. It's been really nice here today, t-shirt weather.(shorts if my legs weren't so white)
Hey Cala, those legs are going to be white whenever you decide to give them light. Might as well get started on that tan any chance you get. We had great temps today too. Just not staying around long enough to suit me.
Cala,
The temperature here the other day with the wind chill factor was -17 degrees. I was outside working on removing part of the greenhouse that I just started to build...long story as to why the entire thing has to come down and be moved to another location. Anyway, I think a couple of my fingertips actually may have become frost bitten.
