A "little" experiment

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I wanted to see how tiny a cutting could be and still root. These are the tips of branches and are approximately 1cm long.

Here's a link to brugman's baby culebras he rooted. i believe the one his finger is touching is the one now owned by Ms. Tig. http://davesgarden.com/showforumphoto.php?imageid=5699

I've got some that were an inch (2.5cm) long that I'm rooting now. I wanted to see how tiny I could go. I'm counting the stem part when measuring, not the leaves.

Are you cold rooting or warm rooting? You should try a few green seedlings as well if you trully want to go small. You can do it. Lol, but of course with your background you would win any propagating contest. I still want to talk you into doing some protoplast fusion.

Brugmansia, I will try the protoplast fusion, but you will have to "talk" me thru it!! I'm using heat, 80*F. I checked the cuttings today, they hadn't even wilted. The leaves were still nice and "perky".

I have just read a bit on it Cala. I could find the chemicals involved though and get you in touch with some people who actually do this via email and with your background in chemistry I have no doubt you couldn't do this. From what I remember, one can also raise pollen up into plants.

Brugmansia, I'm willing to give it a try.
