Have roses and lycoris
MsJen this is not about a trade but sense you where talking about rose's thought I would ask you. Somebody sent me a cutting from a rose last summer said it came from the banks of the Mississippi River. The thing rooted so fast and got about 3 feet tall I figure it must be some kind of wild rose and she said it was yellow. I hope it comes back up this year but thought you might know what it is. Any ideas? Thanks.
mystic, i have no idea..you could try a google search and use keywords like "yellow wild rose mississippi river"
ive been trying that with the pink one, just havent quite found what im looking for..
good luck
jen
Ms Jen,
Do you have a picture of the rose. My mother grows roses and has a book on old timey roses. Maybe she can help ID it. I got a couple of old rose pieces from my grandmothers this last weekend. If you would like to have a piece I will give it to you in Mar. Dee
dee, when i find the rose, ill post a link, i would love to get it id'd....would love to have her named other than pink wild rose.

Jen, Save me a red spider lily and I'll trade with some Lucky Bamboo; do you still want some? Actually, I planned to give it to you anyhow, but maybe I'll have something else. If anything grows well for you, it should for me cause we are so close in area. Hummingbird plants? How about an orange trumpet (cross vine)? I have one for you - not a cutting but one I bought and do not need.
MsJen, I'll have lot of red cypress vine later if you want them or have seeds now. I have seed for white and also pink to plant that I will share also if you want them. Hummingbirds love it.
yardbird, ill email you about the seeds.thanks for the offer.
i completely forgot about the plant swap in a couple of weeks. ill bring what i have left to that.
roz, ill call you in the morning, yes yes yes i still want the lucky bamboo.
jen
Roz, Could you please tell me how you got new starts of the lucky bamboo. I have a small dish with 3 plants in it. They are now about 10 inches high totally. The shoots aren't nearly as big as the main cane. How would you propogate such a plant? Have you ever tried taking them out of water and planting them in a dirt filled pot for faster growth? We bought the plant about a year and a half ago from a Chinese restaurant at a hefty cost so I don't want to kill it.
MS Jen, I don't have any personally, but was looking for hummingbird/ butterfly bushes myself, and the michigan bulb co. has them on sale now.. 3 for $8.something. they have lots on sale now. I need shade stuff, as I have soooo much shade. so thought the info might help.. Bon
Elena, I don't know how to get shoots from it. I do think that when the growth gets tall enough, it can be taken off and rooted. I read someplace that they have to be put in dirt eventually to survive. My husband got me some and my sister got me some and some of mine died in the vase; it may have been because it was by a lamp and too much heat, but I am going to put mine in dirt. Maybe a little fertilizer will make it grow faster. It was expensive for such a small amount.
Roz, Let me know how yours do. I have been thinking of taking mine out and putting them in dirt also. The Chinese folks that I bought mine from provided me with a little bottle of fertilizer that I have added to the water a couple of times a week. Maybe that is why they haven't died. I know the little old man walks around the restaurant misting his all the time. Maybe yours got too dry under the lamp. I have placed mine a short distance from the window so that it gets a shadow of sunshine but not the direct sun. Mine looks healthy but isn't growing enough to divide or cut up the canes so I am going to take the chance of potting it and see how that works. I will report back when I see how it responds.
Thanks, I'll let you know what happens with the bamboo I plant in the dirt.
Me too!!! I hope we will have something good to report.
MSJen I have lantana that I plan on moving some time soon. Last year I moved one and transplanted a limb and it lived. I gave to a cousin. I'll try rooting one or getting a rooting for you when I move it if you think you would like it. The hummers and butterflies love it. It stay covered with butterflies all year. Here's a photo I posted last year http://davesgarden.com/showthread/57738.html
I have red beebalm that the hummingbirds love ,let me know if your interested.
Oooh CC, me I would like some if you have enough.
Georgiaredclay,
I might beg a cutting of your lantana (later this spring, perhaps?) if you don't mind. The kind I have attracts butterflies, but not hummers. It also stays much lower to the ground. I'll gladly pay for postage.
Jen,
Is that rose like the wild white ones that bloom in the wood in the spring around here except it's pink? Check this link.

You got it Dee,e-mail me!
gloria, its not anything like that one. although i do know where some is growing..need any?
the blooms have almost a quartered look to them, with upwards of 20 blooms per cluster.
if i remember correctly, the tight bud is a deep pink and it fades to a washed out pink.
ive looked a gazillion rose pics on the web and still havent found it.

MsJen,
I love hummingbirds myself and I have had anywhere from 10-20 hummingbirds in my small humminbird garden at any one time when I had one. I found that they loved Salvia hybrids immensely. Seemed to love purples as well as reds. I had a few different types of lantana's as well which the butterfly's seemed to love a bit more.
im adding a few new salvias this year hoping that theyll notice and arrive sooner.
i have 6 different varieties of lantana but didnt really notice them taking feeding off of any of them.
thanks for the info : )
