Seed pods on Charleston

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Two different shaped seed pods on Charleston.
The first is typical candida pod with pubescent surface, almost 15cm long, the other eggshaped with the rough surface of aurea.

Monica, thanks for posting. is the difference due to the dad? i thought the seeds took on mom's appearance.

The influence of aurea is quite strong in Charleston. Its sister Tiara has a strong versicolor influence and Tiaras seed pods look more like the ones of versicolor.

Thanks so much for that picture Monika..now...would the fact that that particular hybrid throws out different type seedpods be some way to help identify that particular hybrid? Any idea's why this hybrid does this and some others do not? As always, I am always curious and thankful for the information you have freely shared with us.

Did you see the little note on one of the pods Eric?

I got beautiful hybrids out of both pods. I load up Carmencita and then compare it with the pictures of Perfektion and Pink Bella Vista in earlier thread of Bward.

I tried to reach into the screen and grab a few seeds, but it didn't work :)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I will not work. The picture was made in winter 1997. The seeds have become mature beautiful hybrids. See Carmencita

Ahh, now my eyes are very bad...but that looks like it said Rothkirch...very nice...so...if your saying pollen donor has something to do with it in your oppinion, I would buy that on some hybrids. It will take a bit more convincing to say all hybrids though. Still, I applaud your fast response and willingness to share such discoveries with us. Monika, you trully are a veritable endless fountain of knowledge. If we could all peek into your mind for just a few seconds I think that in alone would drive me mad....
Thanks again for so much already,
Eric

Brugman, I wanted to bring this once more to your attention. The cucumber like seed pod contained many seeds. I received almost 300 seedlings. The more egg like seed pod had less seeds, but somewhat over 200. The pollination was in July, the pods ripe in Febr., seven month later.

Monika,
Thanks for posting the seed pod differences. There is so much to learn about brugs.

is it unusual to have 2 different shaped pods on the same plant?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It does can happen on a hybrid. Charleston is a x candida and both aurea and candida like seed pods can be seen on the same plant. This makes it so difficult to identify a hybrid by its seed pods.

Monika, if one cross an aurea with a versicolor is the hybrid then automatically an x candida (for example aurea golden x versicolor alba)?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It is. B. x candida is official botanical form, so is insiginis as they can be found as natural hybrids. But it must be a true (reine) aurea x a true (reine) versicolor.

here you go CC...

So ...I'm still lost......no id on my pods or my brug.....

but that means CG could be the daddy
