early seeds
pink candida seed picked a wee bit early
Whaaahhhh!!! I want a pod!! I guess I should work on getting flowers first. Looks like you guys had a fruitful day!
Poppysue, do you want a whole pod? Your very own pod to open? Email me if you do.
Oh Cala ...I'm just teasin... you don't have to do that! You open your own pods. I know how long you've been waiting and all the work you did to get them. Next year it will be my turn ;-)
Cala, you should send her the next one that has duct tape and nuskin on it.....lol.
Someday poppysue our turn will come. I agree we have to get flowers first.
Arlene, I have just the right one for her, lol. It'll be ready in a week or so. I could even take it as a cutting and it would be like she "picked" it!!! If she gets something great out of it, we will name it "Bandaid".
ah geez, i'll pay the postage if you send her a limb!
Oh for crying out loud!! I'm feeling kinda of pathetic now - LOL!! =oI Don't send a limb!! It'll freeze on it's way here. I wouldn't want it to get ruined. I'll take some of yur seeds tho. I'll mail an SASE to ya Cala. I can see all Cala's hybrids now, 'Bandaid', 'Boo Boo', and 'NewSkin'...LOL!
You guys are great. What a hoot!
ah, poppysue, gotta see that pic of you and your limb with a giant pod on it!!!!
Yep, I'm gonna send one. I'll watch the weather, and wrap it really good. They are tougher than you think. I'll let you know when I ship it so you can watch the mail box.
You have to take a picture of yourself with your new limb, lol.
So, brugman, I was just under the wire when I only had one white seed out of 100? Of the 10 I've planted of mine, I had 7 come up in 2 weeks. My DH - who isn't today! - knocked a seedpod off my sanguinea that I pollinated on December 23. I used an exacto knife to see what I'm missing - a white, fully formed, brug brain. I've just lost 2 months out of 8. ARGGH! Starting all over again!
Liz, wonder if we could "force feed" that little pod till it's ripe? Maybe set it up with an IV? Wonder what it would need, ringers solution? lol.
Cala - no it's toast - maybe DH is too! Just kidding - AARRHH!
Good grief. Can I take this pic on a good hair day? Never mind. The pod's seeds will be blooming by the time another one rolls around. Well.. today I learned not to whine anymore ;o)
I would never have imagined this much fuss over some seed pods. I admit I am like this normally, but the disease is spreading. I like it! Pretty soon well all be posting pictures of the seedpod besides the flower for better identifications. I like the velvety seedpods with wrinkles in them personally. Anyone else have any preference?
Seed pods are not to good for identifying a hybrid. I will place a picture tonight showing two different shaped seed pods on Charleston. A 15cm long cucumber shaped candida pod and nearby a eggshaped seed pod in the size of an apple.
I like any seed pod that's ripe, or at least big enough for a bandaid, lol.
Monika,
I agree its not perfect, but I would also have to state that neither are the flowers as flowers can be variable as well. If one looks at a handful of candida species double seedpods they all look identical or nearly so. Similarly, if one looks at the actual seeds from candida species double and compares the seeds they also look very similar if not nearly identical. I would like to see more postings though of anomalies so to speak though as I have also had seepods that have 3 chambers and others that have only 2 chambers on the same tree. I have also had flowers with 6 points on the same tree as those with 5 points. I do notice that my hybrids that do have 6 or more points per flower have 5 pointed flowers as well. My hybrids that have 5 points though.....I guess my question would be...do you think one can breed for hybrids that have more points/tendrils/whiskers? Or breed for hybrids that consistently show irregularities in seedpod shape? Or for that matter color....I admire as always your input and guidance Monika. Better to find out that I have made a serious mistake now then to find out otherwise later.
