Off with her head!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Oops, I did it again. I've beheaded another seedling. I'm going back to peeling seeds. Some I manage to get the cork off of. I find that the ones I don't peel want to bury their heads in the sand.

i've done that too. sometimes though i get them off, sprinkle and then pinch them... guess i hadn't had a whole lot like that, probable 5-6 and i am about half and half getting them off.
i am so happy i found out you can just open the seed and plant...that's how i intend to do my seeds from now on, wash and dry the rest...

Don't feel alone, Liz. I beheaded a couple of very special seeds and almost cried. However, others did come up, so I think I will survive this emotionally after all. I also had a couple of seeds that came up with no head at all. Ever have that happen? Wonder if they will ever do anything from the roots?

S.

Forgot to mention that those that I took the heads off of were seeds that I had removed the corky bark from to begin with.

I'm still getting a lot of headless ones. Haven't figured it out. I've beheaded some too. I learned to get a needle to help pick the seedcoat off. I'm too clumsey with my fat hands.

One of Monikas seeds came up with no head. I had to transplant the other one in pot with it, so I moved it too. It's looking good, just no leaves:)

I tried this too *lol* most of my sanguineas, that wasn`t peeled, managed by the force of their seedleaves to crack the seedcoats as we do nuts for X-mas *lol* No, we crack them faster ... the seedlings needed 2-5 days to crack their :) I had a few, where the neck withered or rottet, because of the shell :( I still have a few up with their shells on. I will try and sprinkle themwith luke water and put some lunch-packet plastic around the coats and see, how it works, if these are kept humid :)

Last year I had one come up and I managed to pull the head off. It did grow and survive, so just be attentive to the little headless wonder, some will make it some won't.

The ones I've beheade never survive. I guess I do a really good job of ripping off their first leaves. I tthink they need those leaves to survive.
