With all of us on a mission to create the first american double pink, what are we gonna do once its accomplished?
Personally, i would probably give it to gloria, mainly because shes local and so awesome with keeping them alive.
But what is the agenda? To provide a cutting to all regs on Daves?
always curious
jen
What are we gonna do?
Give it to me and I will sell cuttings for $100 each:) j/k

I personally would not give a cutting of anything to all the regs on daves. I would however give a cutting of anything to someone who gave me the seeds for something or someone who gave me pollen to create something or even a cutting from which to create something....How many members do we have here....a few thousand right? Thats a lot of free plants for a lot of hard work....I might be tempted to give out that many seeds, but I sure as heck wouldn't give that many seeds out for free...can you imagine how much postage that would be alone to send even just a few seeds to everyone on this forum? I must confess I have sent out several thousands of seeds for free, not to more than a few people though....I don't know though....

i guess i should have said the regs that are also trying to create the double pink, you, brugman, tig, cc, gloria, arlene, cala, kyle, brugie, etc..(if i left someone out, it wasnt intentional, im off to work and just wanted to clarify)and also i would think that they would be sent only to ones that we know wont donate to certain nurseries financial gain..im really DISGUSTED by that, btw.
ive already received a couple of emails from people asking for cuttings of "american double pink" eye yi yi

I think the double pink club agreed that we wouldn't sell any cutting of anything we get. The rights would be owned by the person that gets it done first. It could and probably should be put in writing after some of the stories we've read.
Yes, if anyone would draw up something that we could all sign...I think this is more an issue of the honor system, but I agree with you 100%. Thanks for clarifying as well and I apologize if I came off half cocked so to speak.
I suppose I take the unpopular view of the "hybrid rights"
situation.First,it would be great if those of you who hybridized popular Brugs could be compensated BUT in the real world that's just not going to happen. All of you stood on someone else's shoulders to get your hybrids. Most of the good ones are someone's hybrid. So nurseries make a profit. That is what they are in business for.I for one,am glad I was able to buy Kyle's Milk and Honey somewhere.Kyle never offered to sell me one ;>)There is,at present,no
reasonable way for growers to compensate brug hybridizers even if they chose to do so.
Maybe Tonny's idea is a step in that direction.
Now to go put on my body armor before the replies start coming in.
well, I understand that. Maybe whoever gets lucky should do like the daylily hybridizers and sell each piece for an outrageous price. I don't know the answer, I don't have a clue:)
I think the core of this group will be sharing cuttings if we get the magic double, by the time they bloom there should be a lot to cut on. personally, i am thinking i may be too much of a hit and miss, unorganized person to do this right, but i know in a couple of months i'll be out there doing my best to pollinate the best with the best. and will make my tags and put in hand before i head outside!

Glad you made it home safely and glad you got to visit Logee's. You picked some nice brugs. Wish I had started my cuttings sooner and I could have helped you out with Pasco and Sunray. Are brugs the only thing you bought? I wouldn't have been able to get out of there with just brugs.
Brugie, I wanted at least one thing on each table in the greenhouses. I could have spent several hundred dollars so I just stuck to the Brugs and one Episcia. :)
Snow, you are such a good girl. By coming home with basically brugs, you are saving money for more later. Just glad you are home.
Thanks Brugie, Missed everyone here. I'm glad to be home too.
I'm going to add my 2 cents worth here.
In Economics there is the law of supply and demand. Where the demand is high and supply is low the COST is also HIGH. If the Pink Hybridizers Group consider selling cuttings they should be outragiously priced accordingly if they are to be sold on an open market. In that instance they will we compensated for the work and time that went into producing such a plant.
In all instances "NEW" introduced hybrids regardless of the plant they are of course much more expensive that the more "common" hybrids. By common hybrid I mean ones that have been on the market for a long period of time.
Seeds from any double pink hybrid should NOT be given away, but in the same instance of Economics would be sold, but outrageously priced. I say that because once cuttings or seeds are traded, sold or whatever there is little control over what is done with them after they leave the place of origin. Anyone can receive a cutting, grow a plant from seed and then redistribute through sales or trades without any ability of the hybridizer being able to track what happens to them. In this instance the original cuttings or seeds are in an OPEN market so to speak. This is demonstrated again an again within any genus of plant.
I still maintain that through the BHAssociation there would be a much better locus of control. Memebership fees would compensate for payment to have the double pink PATENTED. Then if the plant shows up at SOMEONE'S nursery or business for sale through some underground system, then the original hybridizer could take some action. Furthermore, Patent prevents further cloning by any means for a period of "lets say 50 years or whatever is deemed by the patent" in which instance the plant becomes part of the free open market.
If anyone wants a double pink hybid then they would pay accordingly...new intro daylilies, siberian irises etc. sell upwards and over $200 and some people pay that without hesitation. Remember that any form of hybridization is in itself a form of business and in all instances one must use sound BUSINESS PRACTICES.
Okay now I'm off my soap box. But I maintain "HYBRIDIZER'S BEWARE AND PROTECT YOURSELF FIRST AND FOREMOST".

joydie, I understand what you are saying but this is just my own opinion on the dbl pink. If it wasn't for the generous people on this forum I would'nt have any Brugs because I am on a limited income and can't afford to go out and buy all the ones that I would like to have. If I was lucky enough to be able to hybridize a dbl. pink I would like my name associated with the Brug but I would NOT sell it to anyone in this group.I know the ones that have been kind to me and the ones that are trying their darndest to also come up with the dbl pink.I grow these for enjoyment and it would be my greatest joy when I could e-mail everyone in this dbl pink group and offer them a cutting. This way several people will have a cutting that they can use to hybridize with different colors and species to come up with an even better dbl plant and flower. The main thing is to come up with that dbl pink and then the possibilities are endless. JMHO
Snowhermit,
I'm in the much the same position as you. If it weren't for your kindness as well as a couple of other people in this forum I wouldn't have any AT ALL!!
My response is first and foremost to protect the hybridizer. It stands to reason as if wasn't for a long list of hybridizers in the past and present we wouldn't have all these marvellous varieties to chose from...certainly here in Canada we have only 2 varieties to choose-variegata and suaveolens. Now I've discovered both Liz and Jeanne in Vancouver and I will certainly support their businesses as well as any other small entrepreneur who ships to Canada by purchasing new varieties.
My post was regarding nurseries who profit at the expense of someone else's hard work and effort and not give back to the hybridizer any compensation in return. I'm not against any individual selling their newly created hybrid nor anyone who wished to share freely...its an individual's personal choice.
If an individual decided to sell seeds and I could afford to purchase them, I for one would probably share with people who helped me to get a start with brugs...just to be able to grow one plant from seed would satisfy me for sure. By the same token, if as a business I sold plants from a particular newly created hybrid I would honour any agreement in writing created by the hybridizer.
I've had a similar experience to Kyle and Monika, but not in terms of plants where my work has been ripped off by my boss who signed her name to my work, removed mine and presented it as her own to a Board. It leaves a rather nasty taste in one's mouth to see someone receive an award for plagerized material that you did through your own creativity. Needless to say I LEFT THAT JOB WITH NO REGRETS OR A SECOND LOOK BACK.
