Somebody needs to import those double pinks and other beauties, quarantine em all for 24 months, and then sell them to us:) Why re-invent the wheel when the wheels are already invented, so to speak?

Some of these are gonna be awfully hard to beat I think.

I know........it's the challenge of the sport:)

Both were on my order that was refused entry into the country.

Kirchner-Abel write on their website, that these two are extremely difficult to propagate, so they have a very few to offer each year. However, these two are extremely beautifull, both the sanguinea-looking colors(yellow tube/ red mouth), but especially the clear shape of the two ´corollas *lol*

BWard, why were your order rejected? I don`t bring this up, because I want to ask painful questions, but I think, that maybe the time is right, that someone figure out, how to import, - not to re-invent the wheel, but to better it drastically :)

FSH, TX

Yes, I agree it would make much more sense to work with double pinks to create more and better double pinks. I would love to do this and not reinvent the wheel so to speak as reinventing always takes longer than improving on a hybrid. With me...yes I would love double pinks from which to start, but a certain part of me loves the challenge as well. To be quite honest, if I had some of Monika's pink doubles I would certainly work with them and work hard with them. The problem is that it takes 2 years to get these plants. Seeds would be better from these hybrids for sure....

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Tonny,
I had my import permit but when I applied for it the officials failed to inform me that I also needed a post entry quarantine permit. In the US, the brugs must be kept on the importer’s premises 10 feet away from any other plant in the same family for 2 years. The gov. inspectors can come by to inspect to make sure they do not have viruses that would be detrimental to our country's farm products. After having my site approved by the gov., I am presently working on getting an order from Kirchner for the spring/early summer.

(Zone 6a)

Barbara, make sure to get as many of the nice ones as you can this first time......24 months is still a long time for us to wait:)

Owen

So, two years from this summer....then you can start propagating them and before too much longer we will all be able to have some....so, thats what...3 yrs or so from now? I am an impatient one indeed. Eagerly awaiting 3 yrs...its like serving time though...ahh, what I wouldn't do for seeds from one of these hybrids....enough....time to find some pollen....

If I had the money, I would fly to Germany and personally carry the plants back with me and carry them through customs.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Bward, if i weren't terrified to fly i would hock my belongings and go with you. would love to visit Monika's nursery.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Bward, I promise you that this hybrid was not included in your order. Perfektion and Pink Bella Vista are not available, not for you and not for me. We speculate in Germany that they: be my hybrids, as Kirchner - Abel received in 1998 over 30 2 year old seedlings from me. I was unable to handle them at that time as I had been away half of the year. My sister and myself changed in weekly terms in the care for our mother. The seedlings were crosses between: Charleston x Rothkirch, Rothkirch x Charleston and Rothkirch x Pink Delight. I kept the breeder right but never heard about them afterwards. In 2000 Kirchner - Abels had pictures in several garden magazines of these double pinks, claiming it to be a world hit
and their own breeding. Asked about my seedlings, they told people, that all of them had died. My own double pink, Rosa Zauber, is out of one of these crosses and so is Fandango, Carmencita etc. Kirchner - Abel named Charleston x L'Amour as parents. All hybrids out of this cross are not true pink but orange pink. During our meeting in Aug.2001, asked about these two hybrids, Werner Abel told us, that they do not root at all and if they do, they grow about 10cm within one year. Not too long ago, asked on the german Brugmansia site about these two plants, Werner Abel wrote that they do root to 70% but do not grow more than a few cm within a year. Cuttings of the Charleston x L'Amour cross root very easy and are quite vigorous. They have part double and part single flowers and have to be improved. The second speculation is: that they never had existed as the colors of the pictures are not natural. Nobody in Germany has seen these plants in reality. Friends, who visited Kirchner - Abel to see these plants, were told, that they had a them standing at a friends place so nobody would steal them which is ridiculous. The third hybrid, Full Rosea Magic is for Sale and looks much like my own. The color is much paler as on the picture.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Monkia, i must say i would be totally steamed. do you sell to usa with all the proper paperwork?

FSH, TX

Monika, it goes without saying that you will always hold the best in our minds when it comes to pinks. We are all forever indebted to you. I would be proud to raise up a few thousand of your seeds and let you name cull any you would so choose. Seeing as you have been burnt so many times though I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I don't care if we ever get any of your hybrids over here. I am just plain ecstatic to see what you have accomplished and if all we get are pictures...then thats enough to motivate me. I have just a few trays of double hybrids this year and some are yours. I don't expect diddly out of mine, but I have high hopes from yours.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

No I didnt. I thought they were trustworthy people.
The promise of breeders right was given by handshake.
Kirchner - Abels will not very happy with it, too many people knew about it, two couples from the Brugmansia scene had been there for a visit. They saw the plants.
After these pictures were out, people kept phoning, asking me, if these were my plants. Mme Blin even called from France. All I can say is: I dont know it and I cannot prove it.
It is very strange, that plants will grow to big and strong plants within two years, supposed to have many flowers and then stops growing.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

monika,
I want to order some plants from you. Can you get the photo. certificate? To come into this country, they must be in a soil less mix.

(Zone 6a)

Good luck Barbara:)

Whatever I raise will have to be done this year....and possibly next year. So I won't be holding my breath for any beyond then, but there sure are lots of others who would enjoy raising those nice doubles down the road:) I hope they all get the chance:)

Owen

I am sorry to hear, Monika :(

Honesty must be put forward of anything else, - also in business. I had my doubts about them too, but there was another reason. When I was about to make a larger order from their stock, they refused to send, if I wouldn`t buy a plant health certificate :( I found this odd, since you can ship freely between European Countries, except from Switcherland, but I am in Denmark. I checked this - the same day as I received their mail - with Brian Larsen at the Agricultural and Fisheries Dept. in Copenhagen and he confirmed, that a certification would certainly not be needed.... I found this strange and choosed to skip the order.

It seems to me, that the good tone will come to suffer, almost every time, that money comes into play :(

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I agree with you Tonny, we say in Germany: moral stops where money begins.

FSH, TX

Personally,
I would cull all of my seedlings just to have an opportunity to grow a full seedpod of Monika's hybrids. This way, there is no possible way any of my hybrids could be misconstrued as Monika's or vice versa. You can't misconstrue when all you are growing is another's hybrids. I tease you in all seriousness Monika. I can't believe anyone would be crazzy enough to claim your hybrids as there own. As if anyone could compare! The nerve....

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I cannot prove it Eric. Perfektion and Full Rosea Magic are ghosts plants. Nobody has ever seen them. The pictures are from 1999. But Full Rosea Magic looks much like my double pink. They could be sisters. Mine needs to be improved. It has the weeping willow like growth of its Mother Rothkirch and I do not recommend Rosa Zauber. But there is a seed pod on Rosa Zauber (Pink Magic) pollinated by EP. That will be exciting. Let us talk about a whole seed pod!

FSH, TX

You say the word and all of my seedpods for the next two years will be sent to members on this forum while I grow out those seeds. Seedlings will be sent out as well that I have just started. This way-no chance of me saying one of your hybrids is mine. I will post pictures every step of the way.

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

Barbara, if you are able to get some seeds or plants, you could charge us all enough to pay for them and recoup your expenses in importing and maintaining them and for all the trouble you went to. Someone needs to get these beautiful plants from Monika. My niece is going to Germany for a masters internship. I don't know where she will be, but maybe,...

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok, I stumbled in here by accident to see what all this brug talk was about and I see that the page is in German and that we have a German member here...........hello Monika, so gut eine andere Deutsche ausser mir hier zu sehen :)
