This one was one of my first plants.I used it a lot in the beginning to try to get Double pink candidas..no luck after many tries.I'll keep workin on it..:-)
Brug Versicolor `Ecuador Pink'
okay, if I'm remembering correct, Monika said use a double for the mother and EP is a good dad to keep pink, right??
tiG..Thats right..
EP and Milk and Honey remain two of my favorite brugs.
Bward I can only take credit for the one!! :-)
will be back, going to talk sweetly to my EP, which so far is my fav. I love her shape. Of course, I've never seen it bloom yet, but this summer is going to be so wonderful around here:)
tiG stick your plants in the ground and Feed ..Feed..FEED! and water water..yu get the picture..you will have trees full of flowers..if I can do it in Iowa you can do it there!!:-)
kyle, ep is YOURS??? omg, not trying to drool, but its my FAVORITE!!!!
i crossed a dw with ep and was lucky enough to get a pod started, until one of my sons troll friends picked it off..the child still lives, but not by much, lol
i live in soutehrn mississippi and find that the bloom time isnt nearly long enough for me with the eq, seems it doesnt start blooming until late october and then it gets frost bitten by november, but i love the blooms it manages to give.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!
excuse me while i clean my keyboard off from all the drooling, lol

How many seedlings did you raise from your double whites crossed to Ecuador pink...first generation crosses... and how many doubles did you get? I would say I would use this one myself this year if I hadn't erradicated all of my versicolor's...I still may use her if I can get her to come back. Hope you don't mind me asking, I just want to know if I am in the right ball park.
Kyle, when do you plant yours in the ground? (what time of the year?) do you then bring it in when the weather turns?
do you leave them in the ground?? and how often do you feed?
Pebble, did you give yours time to come back from frost 99% of mine in zone 8b do.
Well, I am still hopefull, we haven't really had any warm weather to see if they will. I am still optimistic! and by golly I'm right there cheering them on. I do look at them every day, I had one pot in the garage, and that is showing some new green growth, I wonder If I should bring it inside and start feeding it? (you know to get a jump start...)
MsJen EP is not mine the two listed earlier EP and Milk n Honey...Milk n Honey is my creation..not EP LOL
Brugmansia......I only got a few doubles(all white) from about 20 seedlings I kept.....
Pebble can plant mine out the end of April or first of May and dig up in Oct. I feed every week with Peters 20-20-20 water soluable fert from Lowes Home centers.Water water water..these guys don't like dry conditions..you can also add peat or compost to your bed and till in to help make monster sized plants! :-)
I am most impressed Kyle. Would you care to post a few pictures of your double whites for us if you still have them or if you have any in bloom? I must confess I would love to have even a white double that was crossed with Ecuador pink from our great American hybridizer. I would of course promise you your pick of seedlings from it once they were blooming...Still trying to talk you out of your beauties. I can promise to give you pictures of each and everyone in bloom that I keep that is produced from one of your hybrids and a full 2 years before I make any of them available to anyone else. I will never make any hybrid you give me available to anyone else unless you tell me otherwise...A fellow can beg can't he?
Brugmansia....get up off your knees....LOL I'll see if I have any pics of my doubles...they weren't much different then the doubles I bought so most never were kept long.Since I have been uninvolved in Hybridizing the last few years..I need to go thru my collection and see what all is still there.
Brugmansia... I have some seed from all my crosses..some several years old if you might wanna try and see if you can get them coaxed into growing.. let me know and I'll have to sit down and go thru my seed bank..The double Hybrids that resulted weren't anything special so most were removed from my collection.I had too many plants at one time..since I have only my basement and no greenhouse you can see my dilemma...LOL
Any Double whites x Ecuador pinks left over? I would be more than eager and willing to germinate all of them if I had half a chance. Yes, I am greedy, but even a few seeds would be wonderful. Of course, any doubles crossed Ecuador pink that resulted in doubles and were crossed back to Ecuador pink....those would be a dream as well...boy...I can't believe my nerve.

Brugman - now you know how we felt with you! LOL
Liz, I must confess with all of this talk I am just going to send out my crosses and seeds to as many people as I can...I am greedy though so I will save enough for myself. I would rather them be planted though then to come up with nothing from a seed that could have been something. Just give me some time to get some descent crosses for you guys.
Brugmansia...I always wondered when I threw out leftover Daylily seeds that I had hybridized..if those few seeds would have been the greatest daylilies ever seen..feel the same about brugies..but can't grow em all!!LOLI'd need 40 acres!!
And a REALLY big basement!!
Kyle, can you give me an address for Lowe's in DM or whatever burg it is in? I've never been there. Always used Peters 20-20-20 until two years ago when our greenhouse changed to another brand. Do they have the big bags of it? I always bought 20lb. or larger bags. I miss it a lot. It is good fertilizer and I'm looking for it in large quantities.
Brugie, is there a green house supply place there? They should have several formulations of it if there is one.
Nope Cala, we live in the boonies here. Anything I get, I have to get through my local greenhouse. I started using Peters when my mother had a greenhouse. I'm sure this other stuff is close, but I'm kinda stubborn and hate to make changes when they are working. I can buy it in small containers, but it gets kind of expensive that way. I used to pay $22 for a large bag of it that was over 20 lbs. I don't remember for sure how much it weighed. Maybe Kyle will get back to me. If not, I'll just email him.
Brugie, I always used Peters too but I found some Miracle Grow Bloom Booster 10-52-10 at Home Depot and have been using that. The Brugs are growing like crazy.
Kyle,
I must agree with you on that. Quantity will never outdo quality. I think most of us here would rather grow 20 seeds from Monika then 1000 of our own. Still, I think you have something in your Double x Ecuador pinks if you would just plant them all out or allow me to plant a few of them out for your. I planted out several thousand seedlings last year, I grew 500+ up in the ground to full size though and 100 or so in pots. I planted in corn row style so as to get the survival of the fittest so to speak. Probably not the best method to get great looking flowers, but its okay for producing healthy strong growers.
Brugman - when you plant seedlings in rows like that... how far apart do you space them?

EP was from the beginning one of the Brugs I wanted most. The first picture I saw of it was on Errowids vault, a large three with something looking like large sausages hanging in short wires from it *lol* I thought, that it looked as a three from the folk tales, that my mum used to read for my and my brother in the evening, when we were put to bed, when we were kids. So I like EP both for being EP, but also for the memories it brings to mind :)
Brugie....Lowes is on 50th st just south of University ave in Clive.Take I-35 to University exit then turn right at the Holiday Inn on 50th. You can't miss it.
Poppy,
I don't follow any hard and fast rule when planting out each year as far as the rows are concerned just as long as each row is done the same that is all that matters. 2ft by 2ft is a good rule of thumb though.
Thanks Kyle, that is very close to where I go to see my surgeon west on University from I-35. Will be visiting Lowes on Tuesday.
S.
I plant my seedlings in two rows about 30cm from stem to stem. They are tied on to a structure, I named the gallow, in two rows. As it is sometimes very windy and stormy up here, they
support each other and I have less damage this way.
Monika ..Good to see you are back I hope all is well. :-)
Yes, heres to row planting, Monika. I agree, planting in rows is the only way to go. Lets enjoy our seedlings and see what next year brings us in our corn rows.
