This has not been my day. First off, Wally licked my chocolates I got for Valentines Day and I can't eat them now!!
I stayed at the house too long chatting. When I got to the green house I noticed my brugs looked really wilted. I went inside to check them and found that my Jean Pasco pods that were about 2 weeks old (seed pods) had fallen off and were on the ground. I checked the pollen in the newly opened blooms(I've been waiting for them to open) and it looked funny, like a snail had eaten it. I checked the temp and it was 72*F. I checked the min/max recorder and it was 72* also. Hmmmmm...
Went down to the main green hosues and started transplanting roses( we got in 200) I now have a blister on my finger, and several rose stickers got me really good.
I found out what happened to my green house. DH finally fessed up. He forgot to open it till right before I got there. He also reset the min/max recorder so I wouldn't see how hot it had gotten(110*F). All of our houses have automatic fans, except the brug house. It's on his "to do list".
Finally, the worst thing was I couldn't find a brug I had promised to send Eric. I did remember to get the pollen out of the freezer for Irish and did send Tonny his seeds, so the day wasn't a total loss.
The hanging baskets have 6 inch [ots of brug seedlings in them. It's the only way I have room for everything and makes sure they get lots of sunshine.
Ihad a terrible day
oh Cala, so sorry!!! is it a brug I can help with?

TiG, it's an EP with a "Y" already to bloom. I looked high and low, I know it was there yesterday. I can't find it anywhere. It was in a 2 gallon pot, I'd just moved it up about a week ago.
wish I could help, mine aren't that close. sorry :( you'll find it!!!
One good thing about brugs, they can stand a lot of abuse. Sorry you lost the little Pasco pods. Hope the New Skin is working on your blister. Wish I had your greenhouse and your temperatures too. Hang in there.....tomorrow will be better, and Happy Valentine's Day to you and all my other brug loving friends.
Cala, sorry you had a bad day. Mine was horrible. The electricians were here, the roofers were here, the glazier arrived and was so arrogant that I thought the roofer might kill him, the building inspector was here, the guys came to install my cable for my computer and I found spider mites on a brug. And to make matters worse, poor Oscar, my rescued boxer who I've had since Oct. 2001 has another malignant mast cell tumour on his butt and is being operated on tomorrow. Good thing I found this one quickly. The last one was in his neck and was operated on in Nov. a week after I got him. I sure hope you have a better tomorrow and I hope I do to. Will be posting pictures on the conservatory soon, it's getting close to being finished. As long as no one kills the overpriced arrogant glazier. He is intolerable but the only show on for 250 miles.
Gosh, after reading about Cala and Jeanne's days, I'm feeling pretty lucky. Hope you two have better days tomorrow.
Oh My Jeanne, I hope we both have better days tomorrow. Bless your heart, good thing it's almost finished.
Jeanne, I was worried about you, but knew what you were into! only I didn't know it was that bad :( hope tomorrow is better for everyone!
Calla I am sorry too - I may have added to your problems by staying on the chat tooo long. The sun will shine again tomorow!
Azalea, it wasn't all your fault. I was also here reading the new posts. This place is habit forming too.
I just can't believe your luck. Seedpods must have been letting you know your next cross was going to be better and hence they were embarrassed to grow anymore. Its okay, I wish more of my seedpods would stop growing. I have no doubt that you will have tons of double white x Ecuador pink seedpods this year.
Eric, I know the versicolors like to open all at the same time, so I will have lots of pollen to send to you. I'll just give DH a big guilt trip about the pods that fell and maybe he will install the thermostat on the fan!!
Well, for what its worth I selected HG to be my main double seed setter and hence I am not going to be having a whole lot of seedpods this year from my doubles. On the plus side, the few crosses I do make to HG that take will be most valuable to me and I will of course have to grow them all with so few to be expected. I am more than confident though that my small aurea double will produce loads of seed as well as a few pods on my candida species that I let freeze to the ground. Luckily, we have a longer growing season here and I still expect to get a few seedpods from the very few hybrids I let freeze back as well. Rest assured, I have another Candida species which did not freeze back. I just put too much stock in HG and perhaps this is a good thing as HG puts out deformed pistals and lower bud counts in cooler weather. I am just hopeing I get 1 seedpod from hg crossed to some pink in my collection. As I have had more than one HG bloom for me...I think it may still be wishful thinking, but I am not one to give up very easily....
Eric, child, you keep forgetting your double peach and creamsickle that Crested Chick so nicely donated to you....... you want pics or do you wanna just meet and i'll let you cut them? ttyl
I don't ever count my chickens as they say until they are rooted. Then, if I am pleasantly surprised I am ecstatic. I would love to get those hybrids to produce at least 3 or 4 seedpods for you two this year. I would be very surprised if I only got that many as most of the seeds sent out last year from my plants were from plants under 8 months old as I had just moved.
Calla, sorry to hear about your icky day....and hope today is a better day for you :)
Calla and Brugie, sorry about your rotten day, mine started out bad but ended with some good news.I start back on my regular run Monday so I've been doing a happy dance!!!Hope some good comes out of your bad day!!!
CC, I know you meant Cala and Brugcrazy, not me. Glad to hear you are back on the regular run starting Monday. Got to keep working for sure to support the brug habit.
:-)
S.
I'm having a terrible day too. Should have stayed in bed all day. Maybe the weekend will be better:)
Make some of your cake up,that way it won't matter if its good or bad,you just won't remember it!!And Brugie, your right,I knew it was brug something, shoulda scrolled back up,DUH!
Well, it was a great day today. We got the roses finished, and I transplanted some brugs to bigger pots. The sun was shining and it was a nice day although a bit windy. I went to the school chili supper and auction and didn't spend much money, so DH is happy. (they didn't have any brugs and all the beanie babies I already had!!)
Eric, I have a question about HG. I have a friend that has this (no, really, not me) anyway, his are growing beautifully but with one problem, they won't Y and produce buds, they just grow taller and get more and more leaves. Is there anything in particular about this one that should be done different? He has some very pretty brugs so I don't think he should have a problem, but he is a little stumped about how it is doing. (besides he won't give me a cutting till it blooms)Any help or suggestions. Dee
how tall are they Dee? some Y higher than others.
It also depends where on the plant the cutting they are growing from was taken. If it was taken close to the top, they will bloom much faster (like a tip cutting) but if they are from a piece of stem, they take longer.
