Feeling guilty

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Are any of you guys feeling guilty?I keep thinking about all the plants we trade, not really thinking of what the hybridizer, of said plant, went through to get it released. And I'm not just talkin brugs here.I have never sold a brug,or any other plants that were hybrids, but I've traded them.I mean Stuttgart Cannas, someone went through hell to make that and yet they are selling for wicked high prices on e-bay,I paid 30 bucks for one clump .It wasent worth the money(it was very small),but the hybridizer didn't get the money. Some Joe Smoe, who had nothing to do with it did.I think it would be better for hybridizers to sell them for themselves for a while,so they get the big bucks, but I know thats not likely, but after finding out this stuff about other brug sellers taking credit for Monikas and Kyles work(and who knows who elses) I think I would prefer to buy things from THE HYBRIDIZER ,instead of a nursery,no matter what plant I'm buying.

I would rather get the plant direct from the hybridizer simply to be certain I was getting the right hybrid. I can't count the times I have gotten a versicolor sold to me as an aurea or something else just as odd. I have seen local nurseries sell Brugmansia peaches and Creme as Datura arborea var...crazzy....Never mind the nurseries that focus on Brugmansia.....

Gosh, I never had thought a lot about it before. I always thought they made money with each one sold. How dumb I feel.

We sell patented plants here at our nursery. I have a propigating agreement with several of the owners of the patents and pay royalty of any and all cuttings I take. I know of nurseries that will take mum cuttings from patented plants and not pay a dime in royalties. Yes, they sell cheaper than I do, but I sleep good at night!!
If the plant isn't patented, or doesn't have a tag with it(this happens especially when they have a "generic" tag like at the chain stores or a nursery that thinks tags are not necessary) I won't know it's patented. I do know that if it's a certain kind of plant all on the market are patented. Yes, the "Royalty Police" do come by and check!!! I'm sorry if I'm rambling. It just ticks me off that people take unaurthorized cuttings from patented material and don't pay the royalties. Off my soapbox now.
