Aurea X `Butterscotch' clone #2

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I did this hybrid a few years ago and never really did any further crosses with it yet. This pic was at work last summer. The flowers are a little smaller than usual on this clone than its sibling, which has huge blooms. The siblings flowers are more angled, this one gets full and the flowers droop.Still I love this one... Ver Fragrant :-)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful healthy lookin plant. Love the color. I wish we could get smells through the puter too!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Kyle,

I haven't raised cannas for several years, but they are looking better now and I'm thinking I better have a barrel full of them at the least.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie I came up with some totally awesome new cannas last year...like a dark bronze foliage with deep bright pink flowers etc.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Come on Kyle, don't make me drool for something I can't have. Can I come up and look at yours when they are in bloom? Home or BC?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie at my house, I can't grow them at work people would dig them up and steal them..they have other colors I grew there! You can visit this summer and see me remake the front flower beds at home..gonna be all tropical this year!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Will get in touch about this later.....

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, if you decide to sell any, i would love to have this one. trying not to beg.... I do respect your privacy thing, though, understand and know you can't want to be bombarded, thought i would just beg a little anyway!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Lovely Brug, I especially like the vibrant red canna next to it. My brugs never got anywhere near this size. I will really try this year to get one to have this many blooms.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

pebble, brugs and canna like pretty much the same conditions in the ground, rich soil with lots of manure. i had quit trying bananas and cannas, they didn't bloom, and a lady down the street told me lots of manure, black cow, etc and water. here's a pic of some of mine last summer, the raja puri bananas at the end you can't see had bananas on them, too cool.

If only we could post fragrance as fragrance is something I prefer over color or shape.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I can't even imagine having a brug bloom like that!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, have it up as my wallpaper now!! are you on call and off today?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I just hope I have one Brug. that is as pretty as the pictures I see on this site.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Nope ,on call, went in at 3 am and punched out at 2:30 pm,just got the barn chores done and I'm looking in here while I'm cooking dinner, gotta get to bed by 6 or so ,cause we're gunna get hit with 10 inches of lake effect so I know people will call in so they'll be calling me!But they can't call me till after midnite!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Arlene, I've never seen such tall cannas. wow...how spectacular. I think I will try to grow some cannas and a brug close to each other this year.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlele, I'm going to grow Rajapuri bananas outside at work in the bed in the pic this year. They get about 12 feet and up in a summer..nice effect!Your pic is great..who's the guys?? relatives? Your kids?
LOL :-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

SHEESH!!! I can't type..what a mess....LOL LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, the taller one is my son, he has grown about 6 inches since then. if you don't have the bananas yet, i can pick some up for you. they sell tissue culture rajapuri's at a nursery about 2 miles from me, last 2 years they have been $3.00 for a 4 inch pot. my original had four babies within just a few months. they travel well, right in the pot. btw, i could read what you wrote perfectly, but you can go back in and click on edit and change stuff if you like.

Arlene, I was wondering about the children too.
This year my main goal will be to grow a spectacular brug.
I will have them in pots, and will have some cannas and will set them side by side. If any of my brugs reach this spectacular stage, you can be assured that I will post a photo of it.
Kyle, are all of your brugs in pots? you don't have any in the ground do you?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Pebble..this year all but the smallest seedlings will go in the ground..thats how they get big and bloom so heavy..in pots they seldom bloom so heavy..I had 400 of them in pots at one time..

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Kyle you plant them in the ground and then dig them up in fall? I know I'm gonna have to plant some in the ground - I'll never be able to keep up with that many pots. I just wonder how hard they are to dig up. It seems like it would put a lot of stress on the plant. Do you wait until after a frost or dig them out before?

FSH, TX

Eclipse,
I must confess I have grown in pots and in the ground as well. I have since discovered that it makes much more sense to plant directly in the ground as one can get them to bloom the first year if one plants them early in the year and I have even had them come back from a freeze when planted late in the year and still bloom w/in a years time frame. Of course I find that ones planted late in the year may or may not come back from the freeze as well. I look at this as survival of the fittest. I plant mine in the ground as soon as they move out of the seed tray. Failing that I move them into a large pot, but I find that the large leaves block the water from the pot and hence they don't do as well. Not to mention the pots seem to restrict the root growth and each time a seedling is repotted or moved into the ground it seems to stunt its growth considerably. I am just thankful to only have a few days of freezing weather each year. The bad part though...the days are generally spread out over a 3-4 month period. I too dig my most prized hybrids up though and put in pots after moving a few more hours north. Tilling the ground and adding lots of agrosoke ensures a nice weak centrilized root growth that allows one to pull up the Brugmansia with ease. If one forgets either though it's hernia time trying to get those Brugmansia out of the ground. Of course some people plant pot and all in the ground....rambling as always....

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Poppysue I planted a 6 ft plant out last year and it was about twice as big by fall, the trunk gained 2 inches in girth..I put a spade down around the plant ..about 12 inches out from the trunk and dig till it comes out...let dry a few minutes then pot...Trim back excess growth and partially defoliate the plant and put into storage for the winter..water about once a week..it will root and regrow the next season. I take the branches I cut off and stick them into the soil in the pot..these root too!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

really really pretty.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Can you believe this pic was from a year ago? Love seeing them. Makes me think I can live through the next 8 weeks of winter. Sure hope it doesn't last any longer than that.
