ERIC! Using the new camera? I had a couple with triple cotleydons but I've lost track as to wich ones.

Brugman,

Yes Poppysue,
I must confess though I don't know if anything will come of keeping track of triple cotyledon seedlings and breeding them to each other, but I am going to try just to see. I have gotten tons of these triple cotyledon seedlings in the past and I must confess I have never kept track of them by seedleaves...yes...I know I am rambling. Just one more way to keep track and select seedlings...who knows maybe one day I will stumble upon the seeds who tells me what they are before they bloom. On a side note, planting your seed so the rounded part faces the bottom and the part where the pollen enters...well if one leaves that pointing up....Then one need not worry about pinching the seed coat off of the seedling when it sprouts if the rain does not flip it upside down.

Thanks Eric :)

How many have you sowed by now?

btw. Have you got new camera? Is it digital ... or? Mine in in for repair, but should be back soon *lol* had to use the scanner for the most peculiar things. You wouldn`t know *lol* I asked of the tri-leafs, because in Datura it means, that the first stem division will be triple instead of double (Y). I wish for a full quartriple-leafs *lol* Lots of floral branches in the first fork :)

Eric I hadn't heard that before. So the pointed end of the seed (is that the poleen end?) should face up when planted?

Please tell me if triple cotyledon is what I think it is??

I have two Isabella x Butterfly seedlings up. One has the normal two leaves, the other has two and one in the middle.

Lucky me???

Great picture, Brugman. I could never figure out why some have triple cotyledons. Any ideas why?

I have had a few seedlings with triple cotyledons too. I didn't keep track.

I didn't know it was anything special, in fact, I thought I did something wrong LOL!!!

Tonny, well lets just hope that keeping track of these seedlings and crossing them to each other will provide some useful information...that is unless someone else has already done this and found it to be unfruitful?
As for seedlings, I must confess I have slimmed down the number of seedlings I am going to raise this year to a few hundred as I have a brand new baby this year. I have also decided to grow 90% of all seeds up from pods I have selected to grow instead of selecting out based on leaf characteristics. I look at this as a learning experience though and not a set back. My killing back all but a few HG and my new aurea double white I consider a very possible set back. It appears that I now have a lot of pollen bearer's and just a few seed bearers. The ratio should be more in favor of seedbearers and less pollen donors as a dab of pollen goes a very long way. Hence, this year I will be making primarily Butterfly x Rosabelle, Rosabelle x Butterfly, Aurea white double x Butterfly, Aurea white double x Rosabelle, Rosabelle x Ecuador pink, Butterfly x Ecuador pink....etc. Hence, I am taking a word of advise from Monika. Of course I will be making a few other crosses as well, but I expect to have enough of the types of crosses that I desire that I can again select out for oddities and leaf characteristics I like and toss the rest with the exception of a few hybrids.
