Noticed this evening that the days are drawing out now. Made me wonder how it is for the rest of you round the UK? didn't have to use headlights til nearly 5.30pm. Sooo much better than dark by 4pm which doesn't seem that long ago :)
Lighter later
The clouds seems to be obscuring the light here, 5pm was definitely headlight time for me but it is nice to wake up and its grey rather than black outside.
Yes, and the birds're beginning to notice it too! Was iron grey hard cold here yesterday, but milder today.
Yes, it's light here now till after 5pm.
isn't it brilliant that the day length is on the turn again. it always seems to change more on a Monday!! because I can relate to my going home time.
the day light thing depends on where you live. those on the east coast of the UK get darker earlier than us by up to half an hour. the opposite is in the mornings.
birds are singing too. Robins much more frequently - I know they sing all year!! females as good as males. Blackbirds and thrushes also. I heard Goldfinches and Greenfinches on the odd occasion. Tits are looking at my boxes.
some hazel and willow catkins are out. leaves on the poplar trees - the first to open - is usually a good sign that spring is here.
for those into birds check out this free forum http://www.abcissa.force9.co.uk/birds/ where you will me posting a lot.
going out now to photograph snowdrops for http://www.snowdropinfo.com which should be online by next weekend if not before.

Yes same here, We went out walking the dog at about 4.30 down the canal and managed to walk until about 5.30 which was dusk.Never mind next month when we move the clocks again then it will be great. Been sunny and dry here but a freezing wind so made it very cold, i worked until 4.00 pm a day off tomorrow but i have lots of pricking out to do as hubby is off to watch a Rugby match with his mates and off course they will make a day of it so i wont see him till late still no cooking for me and sod the housework.
The catkins seem extra long this year, our hazels seem determined to break records - good news for dormice?? Am busy putting up boxes for them on a number of sites at the moment, but doubtless the birds will get in first as usual.
Yes, all the birds are busy and singing well. Just love the long tailed tits that come through my garden every day - seems to be their regular route. They search in the plants right outside my window quite often. Prob my favourites.
Thanks for the links Mark. Can't wait to see the snowdrop site up and running. You going to show us all a photo of your new cultivar on it??:)
The bird one looks great. Will have to spend some time there, sorry DG.
Marks got some lovely plants too,i often have a look at his sites and i am sure Daves does not mind.
Was walking the dog tonight and dusk only came at 6.15 approx, cant wait for nest month and the clocks going forward/back? cant just think which way my brain is addled after a hard Monday.
Thought dusk here was 5.15, but sounds as if our brains are in a similar state anyway Sheila. Whenever it was, there was a robin singing loud and long. Just beautiful!!
Clocks SPRING FORWARD next, then in October they'll FALL BACK. That's how i remember it anyway. It's almost a step backwards with darker mornings, but the compensation will be the promise of extra light in the evenings to work in the garden...........soon?
hey Philly
