Planting deeper?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

All my seedlings are growing nice and straight but the Sangs are growing crooked and falling over. They look nice and healthy and are growing big but seem to not stand up straight. Can they be planted deeper to the nodes where the first leaves appeared or will the stem rot? I have done it with tomatoes but don't know if it will work with Brugs.

Snow, I read someplace that sangs need to be staked from the gitgo. Maybe just a little piece of bamboo will hold it until you move it into its big pot and can stake it more permanently. I looked at mine, and they too need a stick to hold them and are only about six inches tall.

Sorry, not much help here as I have only gotten sanguinea's to live for 2 years in this area. I wish you much luck though.

Some sanguineas just have bad habits. Some grow straight up, some sprawl. Don't worry about it, it'll do what it wants to. You can stake them and train them if you want, I usually let a few sprawl.

Let it sprawl and make a hanging basket out of it!!!

could sound as light deficit

No, I don't think it's light deficient. Some of my sangs Y about 2" after they grow. Those are the ones that are sprawling. I have staked lots but one I'm letting sprawl and it might be a good idea to make a huge hanging basket out of it. Or I may just cut that piece off later. Just experimenting to see how fast I can get it to flower. Have had sangs flower in October that were planted in April. Hoping to do that again.

I have the same thing happening - if you get a stake in early you can train them but some do like to crawl and sprawl. I just thought of something brugcrazy - why don't we try nicking and pinning the shoots to soil? If you can air layer them I don't see why it wouldn't work - like pinning roses.

I thought I was doing something wrong!!! I have a couple from seed from Earl and I thought they were already reacting to GA!! LOL! They are staked, but I may let them do their thing.

Liz, I'll try air layering one when I get it into a bigger pot. I've stunted some of them because of lack of room. Should have lots of room soon.

Happy to see that this seems to be a normal growing habit of the Sang and not something I did wrong. I've got five of them so I'll experiment with a couple of them and let the other three sprawl. Thanks for your input. :)
