Sassafrass isn't in the database! Any idea how hardy they are?
I've always liked them since I saw them in WV, but I don't know how they would do up here...
I would like some, if we can figure the hardiness out.
Thanks,
Cedar
If you have any extra please let me know.
Thanks
HI jcf
Still have room for one more LMK thanks Mike
Do they grow in zone 5-6?
Sassafras is in the database, right here: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/448.html
I just looked in my American Horticultural Society book...it says hardy zones 5-8.
Also says hard to establish from the wild cuz of its deep tap-root and few lateral branches so be sure to dig deep JCF. (I dug some really small ones a yr or so ago and two of the three did just fine...it was my neglect that killed the third one.)
Last yr was the first time I dried the leaves for file (see what effect Lisa and Bud have on me!)
these are small trees. i plan to dig them tomorrow and put each one in their own pot and ship them that way.
also when i researched them they are hardy in canada.
