What is YOUR opinion on which is the brug with the strongest fragrance? Not considering color....just fragrance.
strongest fragrance brug
Owen,
The strongest smelling ones I have are the Aureas.
Owen, personally i really don't like the fragrance of any of them i have smelled yet. 4 o'clocks are one of my favorites for smell.
Aureas and their hybrids are really strong. Did yu know that the fragrance of brugs in close quarters(such as indoors) can cause headaches, respiratory problems and chemical(fragrance) allergies! Check out the historical data. They are not really for indoors if you have breathing problems. More on this later.
I know that when my versicolor peachs are in bloom I get a little congested from them
Thanks for the info Eclipse and I can't wait to hear more from you.
Oh no!! That's bad news for me.
I have a Miami Orange Glow blooming at this time....the fragrance is heavenly...it reminds me of lilacs with a little jasmine thrown in. Even my cat and dog enjoy sniffing the fragrance at dusk and during the evening!!! They are my little garden helpers.....they watch the plants and I swear they count them to make sure they are all there!!
Suzy
PS My Miami double white is now blooming....I haven't noticed a fragrance yet, but the other one is so strong it might be overpowering this one.
Sharbot, you need to pollinate your double white!! We are all waiting for a double pink!
use Equador Pink!!!!!!!!
I need pollen!!! My ecuador pink is still a baby and no blooms.....if anyone can send pollen I will pollinate!!
Suzy
I wish I'd known about freezing the pollen when it was blooming!! I have some Whiskers pollen and Isabella will open in a day or two.
Cala....I have about ten buds on the Miami double...one is almost open, the double part is just starting..one is just breaking through the calyx and the rest are still bud......if you can get me some of the Isabella pollen when yours bloom...I will follow Kyle's advice from the thread about pollinating with a brush in the evening etc.....who knows you and I might become grandmothers of a healthy bouncing double pink brug baby!!!!! Wouldn't that be grand????
Suzy
Wishing it was indeed that easy.
One can always hope....and pray......and hope....an.....But it's worth a try....right!!!!!???
So it looks like the consensus is Aurea and Aurea hybrids are the best bet for strongly fragrant brugs. That is what I was wanting to learn.....and hope others in here have added that tidbit of info. to their notes also:)
Owen
PS: Arlene, do you have any 4 o'clock seeds to trade? lol
Sharbot, Isabella's corolla is starting to open!! I'll keep a check on it and collect as soon as it's ripe. Yes, we can always hope for a double.
Cala..that will be great....nothing ventured nothing gained. I promise to be a good pollinator and coddling grandmother to whatever we produce!!!
How can you tell when the pollen is ripe?
If I hear about a double pink brug ONE more time!!!LOL They already exist in Germany.....somebody fly over and get us some!! :-)
oblambert..as soon as the flower fully opens on the first evening..the pollen is already ripe and ready to spread.
Is it possible to fertilize a single bloom with a mixture of pollen from severa different brugs? Or does fertilization take place with just a single grain of pollen?
Each grain of pollen goes to one ovule. Theoreticaly, each seed could have a different "daddy" but would you really want to do this?
LOL Kyle. I got busted at the Canadian border once for Beany Babies. I can't imagine it would be any more embarrassing to get caught trying to get out of Germany with Brug cuttings.Only the jail sentence would probably be longer. :0
snowhermit......... LOL yu got dat rite!
To bad they don't have a Double Pink in Australia....oh I forgot about the 2 year quarantine...sorry.
Jeanne!!!!!!!!!!! it's y'all :)
Shure wish I cud spel betr, butt lettuce pray it gits betr soone. :-( I think I'm getting tired.......However some of those names on the brugs are pretty hard to learn the spelling of.
