rooted cuttings

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

These were rooted cuttings that I decided to lay on their sides in the pot.(what I call Eric's Method of rooting) These already had little branches coming out in various places on the stems and I wanted to see how they would do if I laid them in a pot on their sides. The sprouts started coming up almost the next day, they are growing nice and straight and look very healthy. I dug down into the soil, and the main cutting was rooted all along itself, but these didn't have their own roots yet. (I know, I'm not good with technical report writing!!) I put some Osmocote on top of the soil. The little brown specks/trash are leaves from an asperagus fern that is hanging above and is shedding.

Cala, they look so healthy...I agree with snowhermit, you sure have a magnificent green thumb.
I have a couple of rooted cuttings, I think I will try "Eric's method" also and see if they look anything like yours.

Cala, thanks for sharing your insight.

Cala - tell me again, slow witted - how long did it take yo get to this point? They look great. What's everybody using if they don't have this kind of pot?

Thanks, Cala, I might just have to try that too.

Liz, I used a plastic cake pan from the grocery.

Those Costco pans with the clear lids?

right! anything will do. I cut my stems into 1-2" pieces so each could go in a 3" pot to start. I just put them all together the first time. If I ever get over this virus, I'm going to do Ocre and Butterfly too.

Do you cover them Tig?

I half covered the big logs, but the one I took that was green I covered about 1/4-1/2" All five of them took.

When I saw how nice TiG's looked, I decided to do mine. Mine were done 1-13. The ones that are really large already had sprouts. I just burried them because I wanted the limbs to grow straight. When you do the cuttings like this, they don't even wilt. I've had some that still had the tips and they turned up toward the light too.
