difference in seedling size

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I just thought I would show you the difference in the size of seedlings from the same cross. These were soaked but not peeled and have been on a heat mat @ 72*F.I forgot to get the date of sowing in the photo, I will have to report that tonight.

happy to see that pic, i have 7 seedlings and can see more little loops popping up, from my pot outside, dropped straight from the pod into the pot in december. those do look like mine, different sizes, figure they are popping up at different times. so happy to see that i can do seeds, even if i don't do them like anyone else.

Arlene you are having better luck with your outside planting than I am in the house. Nothing happening right now. I'm still hanging in there though. My first Isabella X Pink came up great as did the sanguineas. It's these last ones I'm having trouble with and I'm still convinced that it is the different soil I used. Oh well. It isn't like I don't have any brugs. :-) Good luck with yours in the outdoor pot. Susie, you certainly have the right touch and I'm sure your educational background helps a lot too.

The seeds, the seeds, the seeds are on fire...lol, so glad to see everyone having such good luck with their first hybrids. I'm so excited, I just can't hide it...and here's hoping each and every one is something spectacular...well it could happen. Some people say, great things come from those that try. Those that fail to try will never know the excitement of seeing even a simple white flower from ones one creation as it unfolds for the first time.

Arlene

I am like Shirley, nothing, I have had one come up from all the seeds. I have tried various methods, wet paper towel/plastic bag, to see if they would start roots, then tried soaking and peeling, then tried soaking and not peeling. Tried heat mat, tried up on top shelf, 75 degrees or so, nothing so far.

Can I bring them down and just throw them outside, like you did??

Wish me luck!!

Good luck Arlene.. I feel for you - just had one last month.

I am getting ready to plant some seeds I got from Arlene, but I decided if nothing else, will have to get a heating mat. I am going to try soaking them, like I read on previous posts.

Arlene, it sounds like you might have the right idea - let nature take its course when it comes to seeds. I have planted a large number of seeds and the only ones that have come up so far were an Isabella cross from Gloria and they are doing great. All seeds are in the same environment, but before I give up completely I will wait until Spring. If they don't do something by then, I am not going to waste any more time on them. I hope that I am not disappointed and that they are simply slow starters.

Just mentioning "Root Canal" makes me cringe. The older I get the more apprehensive I am about those things. I hope all goes well.

I have had excellent germination from most of my seeds. I also use ProMix, spray with tea tree oil, have some in the kitchen and some in the greenhouse. I only use heating mats for very special ones. Most of them germinate without bottom heat. I do soak and peel the seeds unless they are tiny. Keep trying and you will get lucky soon.

I started seeds from Eric way last fall and this morning another one popped through the ground. So, it is a waiting game in some cases and I won't give up. Like he says, sometimes it might take up to a year. I know that is a long wait, but it might be worth it. That last seed to germinate might be the ONE!!

I agree,I thought I was waiting for nothing, today I noticed 2 more of the frosty pink X double white came up,theres gotta be a month or more difference in germination, same seeds, same time, same tray,SO DON'T GIVE UP!!!!
