This brug is Versicolor Apricot and is growing in my old nieghborhood in San Diego. It has an 8 inch diameter trunk and can have upwards of 500 -600 flowers open at a single time. The tree is 3 stories high and still climbing!I love this color of versicolor.
Brugies as tall as a house??????? You bet..3 stories tall
that is totally awesome.
That is amazing, absolutely amazing. I've seen them that big in Thailand but not around here. I would love to have 500-600 blooms on my brugs. I don't think it gets hot enough here for that, but I'll keep giving them lots of osmocote, 10 -52-10, the smelly fish stuff and whatever else I can find.
Kyle, What is the name of this one? 500 blooms is just overwhelming and the height is hard to imagine.
Woweeee!! I've never seen that many blooms on one plant. It's huge. The only plants that I'll ever see this big are in pictures due to my cold climate. Keep em coming Kyle.
Brugnanny its Versicolor apricot.
I'm moving.
Huge that so tall did not know that, thank goodness, I will not put near wall my home whew good thing to know about it and will put other way near by wall fence. It is so beautiful and thank ypu for posted.
You're killing me here Eclipse! Are you telling me that San Diego has the perfect brug climate and soil? Or are your San Diego growers the best around?
Incredible!!!!
And to think I'm thrilled with my one that got 7 foot tall, and when I get 10 or 15 blooms at one time......boy,I'm WAY doin something wrong......
Now that is a lot of seedpods. Simply beautiful!
Eric, I can see you hanging off the roof trying to pollinate those top flowers!!
TiG, that is exactly what I was thinking when I saw that!! I thought I was doing good with a 12 ft tall one with 50 blooms!! I want to move farther south! That's lovely, keep showing us these beautiful plants.
WOW....My daughter lives in San Diego....I'll send her this picture and ask her why doesn't her Brug look like this. LOL
Glory the tree is in North Park area 2 blocks north of University ave on lincoln st.
Liz,
Brugmansias grow in the lower hills of the Andes mountains in Peru,Ecuador, Etc. The days are warm(not hot and humid) and the nights are cool. Thats what these plants evolved with. San Diego is warm and sunny, and cool with low humidity.A perfect match for bruggies!
Liz I meant warm and sunny and cool nights, seldom in the upper 80's.
I always thought of San Diego as warmer than that. My husband goes waterskiing down there. HMMM - you've got me thinking~~
DH lived there and said it's the "perfect" climate.
San Diego is a very nice place....Kyle I will be there in May....I'll make it my point to visit the Brug tree...can it be seen from the street? If I find it I'll get a picture of it.
Can't you just imagine the smell in the air in the evening around this house? Beautiful!!
thats great the sent must be unbeliveale
As usual....I can't see the picture.....but like a blind man i am reading all of the posts......sounds great......I guess Florida's heat and humidity won't allow this size.......
Suzy
I think if a frost doesn't damage it you could get one this high I got some that are 8'plus and hopping they get like this
Pete
Glory..the tree is on the east side of this house and seen if driving west on Lincoln st.Its about two- three blocks east of Florida St on Lincoln.
Kyle,
I wrote down the directions and will be sure to go by there...thanks
I just hope mine grows big enough to have few blooms this summer. That is a beautiful brug.
