It may be white but it is still beautiful. If I ever got a bloom that big I'd be in heaven.

I love white flowers. That is beautiful and huge. Very, very pretty. I also love pink, yellow, peach and would really love a blue brug. LOL Are you working on a purple or blue one yet?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i like whites and i like the way the flowers seem open to the side instead of hanging down. did you cross this with something else?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kyle, that is fantastic. I cannot imaging a brugmansia flower that large. You have such a beautiful collection and I am envious. I hope one day, I will have such pretty ones.

Arlene I crossed this hybrid to Ver. Pink last fall and have two pods on the tree in storage..will see what we get from the cross.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Are you expecting a dinner plate sized pink? Oh, be still my heart!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

WOW,it looks bigger than dinner plate Dahlia's

Very nice....doesn't it make you proud when one of your babies come out looks so great?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, tell me, the two pods on her....do they keep maturing while in storage or resume growing when you take them out in spring?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,
The plant can go completely dormant but the seed pods continue to develop over the winter. Then by about Jan or Feb the pods mature and are harvested.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Gosh, a lot of people will be excited to hear that i think!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Eclipse, you crossed it in the fall to the V.pink - and will harvest this month. So that's ?3 months? If you plant immediately after harvest can you get it to bloom before the next fall? Is there a perfect time to pollinate to insure bloom in the same growing year?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Liz, I pollenate whenever there is flowers of enough different types to make it worthwhile. This plant was pollenated in Oct. Most brugs won't bloom from seed the same year as the pod forms. Some seedlings can take several years to bloom the first time. And When they bloom the first time..the flower may not stay that color intensity or form from then on..plumerias are the same way.The very first flower might be huge and red..all the following flowers may be pink and smaller. Not always true..but for me the first flowers aren't always going to stay that size or color. The second round of flowers will always be what the plant will remain.

Very nice!

I pollinated a Frosty Pink with pollen from a Jean Pasko and I do believe it took....Maybe we'll end up with a Frosty Jean or a Pink Pasko. LOL

Oh...I'm going to pollinate that Golden Lady with pollen from the Frost Pink...hope to do that tomorrow. I already pollinated one Golden Lady with the Jean Pasko but not sure what's up with that one yet.

Now I'm really getting excited. Glad you asked the question Arlene. At least I can get some pods to mature now that I know it can finish up in the basement without sunshine. Kyle, this little bit of information has made my day.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Ok....so why can't I post a palm pic on the Tropical page?????

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

pics only on photo page and brug page...brugs are special!

OH!! the Identification forum!!!!

Altamonte Springs, FL(Zone 9a)

WAAAAHHH!!!!! I can't see the picture.....this is so ongoing....yesterday the computer gods smiled upon me and most pictures on the threads came up.....today they don't........I want to see this bloom :(

But all of that aside.....for a beginning novice in the brug hybridizing.....I appreciate all the information I am gathering from you Kyle.....thank you so much for being part of our group!!!

By Beginning, I mean from step one.....can't wait for mine to grow big enough to bloom to cross.

Which brings me as a novice to my next question....what crosses with what best, how do you determine what to cross...I would love to learn more so that i will be better educated when it is time with mine!!!

Sharbot, email me and I can give you some pointers. There are certain crosses that won't produce viable seeds.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Kyle, is there anyway we can get you to start a new thread with that info?

Hamilton, Canada

Kyle,
That flower is a stunner! Wow that has to be a Brug Diva for sure. Keep posting pictures for us that are snowbound and new to brugs. Thanks.

Eclipse,
I have only hybridized with aurea, suaveolens, versicolors, insignis, candida, aurea x suaveolens x versicolor crosses. I have gotten all such crosses to produce viable seeds though. Are you talking about certain crosses or certain species? I have heard that arborea will not cross to aurea, but will cross to sanguinea...hence the two groups that are compatible would be aurea, suaveolens, versicolor and hybrids thereof being compatible. Arborea, sanguinea, flava aka arborea x sanguinea, vulcanicola would form another group and hence would be compatible amongst themselves. Are you saying that there are certain hybrids themselves...say Jamaican suaveolens x aurea Butterfly that would not be compatible for some reason? I am not sure I follow you, but as always I am always eager and ready to learn.
My favorite cross...DR.Sues which is an aurea x suaveolens x versicolor cross...crossed to Ecuador pink...a simple versicolor...this gives one the combination (Aurea x suaveolens x versicolor) x Versicolor or Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink for short. Or are you refering to even more complex crosses? Please post this information for all of us here as we are all very interested in learning new information that concerns hybridizing Brugmansia.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

(but start it in a new thread please, cause I know there will be a lot of questions:)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugmansia..your getting the picture.Arborea and Sanquinea are only compatible with each other.....any arboreas will cross with any sanquinea types,Flava,Vulcanicola..etc. because all of those are actually Sanquineas.Aurea, versicolor and suaveolens are all inter-compatible with each other but not with arborea or sanquinea.See where this is going? LOL Later tonight I promised to explain this..I'll post it to a seperate thread though for everyone to follow. :-)
