The warmest of welcomes to you Monika. You'll love it here!

Welcome Monika.

Cordially welcome Monika :) Brugcrazy told so much good about you and your book is a great lerning experience to me too and if you don`t mind, there are many questions I will like to ask you along the way.

You will be in good company here. On our board we have Kyle Courtney, the creator of so many beautiful American Brugmansia hybrids. When I got internet a few years ago, his hybrids were the first I saw (besides the three Danish available hybrids all named "Datura" and treated with growth inhibitors) and it turned me on to more serious Brugmansia growing. Yesterday I was amazed, when I read on the board, that Kyle made all his from a very limited number of available species/hybrids.

On board is also Eric from who we all learned a lot of Brugmansia hybridizing. He like a good challence and when you get to know him I think that you will see a man striving for the impossible with his mind set to obtain it. He is vision and action combined in one person. If you take a look of some of Arlenes recent postings you will find her excellent pictures taken of a few of Eric`s beautiful creations.

Hi Monika,

I've heard so much about you through Brugcrazy and can hardly wait to hear from you. Just having all of the experts here is a real treat for all of us. Hopefully we will learn from you and by putting our heads together, come up with some gorgeous new brugs. I hope that your heart is healing and we will all be here for you and can maybe help to ease your pain.

Where's Monika...................?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

It's only been a week ~~

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yes, I'm sure she's not chatty yet.

FSH, TX

Monika, Please come talk to us soon. I have a few of your Double seeds planted and if any of them bloom I am crossing them to my own Candida species this year. I feel like I could get lucky, although it may take riding on the back of a great hybridizer like yourself. Heck, everyone here knows I love a challenge, but the challenge will be simplified as I am so lucky to be working with your own double seeds which from the look of them have a lot of aurea in them.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Hallo to all of you,

a very big Thank you to all, for the words of comfort, for your understanding. The last weeks have been very hard.
Just give me a little time to recover.

I am in your debt and hope that I can make it good again (so we say here in Germany).

I have posted a picture of B. arborea Engelsglöckchen.
It happened in 1997, several double Flowers. It never repeated again.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Monica, a warm welcome to you. losing my mom is still hard on me after 6 years. Very glad to see you here. would love to see your pics.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Monika, Nice to see that you popped in to say hello to us. these are difficult times for you, you have my sympathy.

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

HELLO, Monika! Or should I say "Howdy" since I'm from Texas? ;-) I feel for you ~ I still miss my dad after 23 years, but it does get easier. Take all the time you need and we'll be here then. Time does make it better. May it pass swiftly for you.

FSH, TX

Monika,
Perhaps what caused that hybrid to throw out doubles...something similar...well I can't help but dream that given the most opportune chances, having the wind just right, temperature, and a bit of luck one might get an arborea to cross with an aurea....Well, even if its unfruitful, I intend to make many such useless crosses each and every year till my Brugmansia are no longer growing. Who knows, I might get a 1997 event to occur for me. Brug legend has it that once every 400 years an aurea can cross with an arborea after all. Just a wish that last one, but a fellow can wish and dream.

Do you remember, when in your dreams such incident occured the last time? *lol* I share your dream of a bridging hybrid, - I have great hopes in a

Brugmansia impossibillitus var. impossibillitus cv. "impossibillitus" Eric et all ex. earlier proven theories :) *lol*

In Datura D. leichhardtii is a such bridge. We have to cross till we no longer know there is a world outside our test grow fields or else we really have to take that south American trip to search for the missing bridge ourself ...

Actually Lene and I have been talking of a collection trip to South America, both to study Brugmansia in habitat, but to collect seeds as well ... It is not a fact yet, but it is one of the major ideas on the vacation planning board and compete only with a collection trip to Mexico to visit the locations given by Dr. Robert Bye for D. lanosa, D. reburra and D. kyomatocarpa, which seem to be un-obtainable for us.

Monika, if you could learn us a better method of desinfect Brugmansia seed coats, we can apply the treatment as we collect them and eliminate 100 % the risk of having a virus back with us.
