southeast, NE

Good evening all! It was cold last night (below 0) but sun was shining and temp reached 20's today so it was pretty nice. Thanks Mary for the suggestion about the oatmeal and beer for the sick ewe. I may get dd to help me try that tomorrow. We use something in a tube that we buy call Fast Track which is supposed to help with their appetite. We use it for our show calves when the go off of feed. It is supposed to be totally natural and I wouldn't be surprised if it is similar to the beer mixture because it has a fermented smell. I think I've heard yogurt is supposed to be good too. The lambs from that ewe are doing very well and we haven't bottled them since yesterday afternoon so they must be getting milk from her.

Three ewes lambed today - 1 set of triplets, 1 set of twins and a single. When I found the ewes with the triplets, one of those lambs had its head pushed in between a panel and the wall and was pretty weak. Not sure how it got there. Another pregnant ewe was trying to claim one of the triplets and I wonder if she didn't nudge it up there. The ewe lambed later in the afternoon. I pulled her lamb as she was straining quite a bit. The single lamb was long and big.

Our teen helper came to help with chores tonight so I just have all the inside things to get caught up on that I didn't get done today.

You all have a good evening and stay safe.
