Farmgirl, first question...have they got aphids? Turn the leaves over and look under them for the little buggers!! I've found that when an aphid bites some leaves, it makes it deformed, especially if they bit it when it was forming.
2nd question...have you sprayed anything on them that could have burned them a little? Even Safer's will sometimes burn the tiny tender leaves of a seedling.
3rd question...Have they gotten a bit chilled? Sometimes this will make the leaves grow funny.
Seedlings are not true to form. I don't know about prices on unnamed seedlings that have never bloomed, but I can say that growing seedlings up and seeing them bloom for the first time is fun. Knowing that you helped make that hybrid. I have given away hundreds of seedlings that I have never seen bloom. One nursery promised to grow a large sum of seedlings and let me take cuttings for free of any I liked after they bloomed. I went back and the nursery had sold most of them and the nursery worker who I had made this deal with was no longer to be found. I had given them an assortment of double oranges, aurea's, etc as well. Needless to say only 1 named aurea was there the last time I visited as well. I honestly can't remember how much they were charging for the few seedlings they had left, but they were simply marked by color and no other distinguishing factors. Hence an insignis type was labeled pink and a versicolor type would be called pink as well. Go figure.
Farmgirl,
Just let them grow....those leaves will fall off and new ones will take their place....not to worry.
I think cold will do that to the leaves. I've had a few like that in my basement where it gets pretty cold. They seemed to have snapped out of it when i moved them upstairs in the warmth.
yes they did get chilled this weather has been crazy. and yes i did spray some stuff for those nasty knats in the soil. i have been looking under the leaves everyday for aphids and i haven't seen any. and i've also been checking for mites they all look clean so i guess i won't worry anymore thank you all. and i guess when i bring her a few we can talk about price then i'm sure we will come up with something fair for both of us. no i'm not selling them all i'm keeping some for me too. i have to see them bloom.
I agree with Poppysue, I had a Cypress Gardens that was looking pretty bad. I moved it to where it got more light, was warmer and gave it some Osmocote and liquid fertilizer and it looks great now.
Farmgirl, I had a few seedlings that had ugly leaves to start with but now they are fine.
