Good afternoon all!
Kathy Jo - I am so sorry about your husband's grandmother and your lamb.
How is everyone's weather? It's been snowing most of the day - we've had at least 8 inches of snow so far (I think). I just know it's hard to trudge through headed to the barn. However, we were fortunate not to have the ice and winds that some of you have had or having. And as I predicted, the snow seems to have brought the lambs. We had a ewe that was partially paralyzed. She has been laying in a pen for about a week now. We would try to get her up but she would move around and eat a little bit and then lay back down. I was pleasantly surprised to find that she had a set of live twins. However, she doesn't seem to have much milk. Hopefully, it will still come in. I did thaw some goats colustrum and fed them each a few ounces. We also had our first set of triplets today. Dh thinks that the ewes may have all cycled right before we turned in the rams as the weather was cool and that is why they didn't settle until later.
A friend of ours stopped by last night. He has 100 ewes that are lambing. He also had 9 nanny goats. He said all 9 goats kidded within 24 hours.
Dh is trying to start the tractor to start moving snow. He discovered last week that the engine heater didn't work anymore. Now he is kicking himself because he forgot to fix/replace it. Better go - I need to go out and help do chores.
You all take care and stay warm and safe!
