It has been blooming for a few days now. Finally remembered to take a picture and put it here.
My Whiskers
did you save me some pollen?? dont' need it right this second, so you can freeze it if it's not too late.
TiG, I'm glad you reminded me!! if I had a brain, I'd be dangerous. OK, question, do I dry it first and then freeze, or just freeze it "raw"? I'll try both and see.
So pretty. I hope mine will do as well this summer.
Very pretty.
Cala,
You did fine ....another grandchild.
Beautiful,
Lovely - and oh to have a greenhouse that big!!
Liz, it's not the biggest one we've got. Bill wouldn't let me have the 30 X 96. Boy, could I grow some brugs in there!!! We've got lots of ferns in one and have started the bedding plants in the other big one. The last green house is empty now because it doesn't have heat. We will have petunias and snapdragons in it.
Sooo pretty!
I think I saw where the expert said to dry the pollen first and then freeze it.

am I the only one that thought of cat whiskers on Cala's face when you first saw the name of the post?? am I the only weird one here? (be careful how you answer;)
I didn't want to say anything because I have a couple of my own. No, actually I didn't think of that at the time. tiG, you come up with some good ones!
I started to take her picture and draw whiskers on it and post it, but I knew she'd get me back with a picture of me with a mustache!!!
I was wondering when y'all would notice the name of this thread. That's what I was thinking when I posted it.
No for TiG, yeah, I've got the paint brush out and am working on that picture!!! Sideburns too!!!
If you ever want to Shave your whiskers,I'll clean them up for you...dumb joke,OK,groan......
CC, as soon as I can bear to cut it back, I will share with everybody here. I was wondering today, there are some tiny little "side shoots" where old leaves have fallen off. They seem to have been the same size forever, how do I get them to grow? I would have a bunch to share without sacrificing my blooms then.
Cala,
When you do take the knife to your plant, would you put me down for a cutting, please? I have two little tiny cuttings, but I'm afraid they aren't going to make bloom this year. They just aren't growing. I've had them since last fall and they are only about 4 inches tall now. When I got them, they were tip growth and I felt lucky to even keep them alive. Maybe I'm trying too hard with them, but this is one that I really wanted. If you don't whack away at it, I'm sure I can wait until next year. Besides, you might need it to fill your orders.
S.
I will start you one Brugie!! You've been so good to give me lots of cuttings. The Sunray you sent me last fall is getting ready to bloom :)
Thanks Cala,
I hope you like the Sunray. Mine didn't bloom well for me last year, but was purchased late too. The two blooms it had were marked well with holes in them from those crazy beetles that also eat vegies. I'm not sure what they are, but have a greenish/yellow shell with black spots. Nasty little critters.
The cucumber/melon beetles!! I hate those things!! A little sevin works on them as will the DE.
Hey, good idea. I hadn't even though of the DE as a cure for this problem. I have been hand picking them because I hate using Sevin when the blooms are open. These beetles do a real number on my asparagus too, but they go into the ground and the DE will work great there. Thanks Cala. What would we do without your expertise!! At least I haven't had the aphids yet. Does DE work on mites at all?
By the way, where do mites come from anyway?

Brugie
Oil is better for the mites, though I've had problems with the Ultra Fine oil as have several others here I think. For the mites, I use alcohol and water and a squirt of dish soap, alternating with some neem oil diluted in water with a squirt of Safer's soap to make it emulsify. I think because my green house is so humid now, I'm not having as much mites as aphids. It's also cool in there at night, but the aphids seem to love the humidity!! I found some on my baby seedlings today, uugh!!
Are we still talking about rubbing alcohol? :-)
Thanks Cala!!
Yes Brugie, save the good stuff to drink when the aphids get to be too big of a pain and you can't handle it anymore, lol
