I hate to shop, but...

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Last night, I was out of so many things, I had no choice but to go to the store. But I am one of the world's luckiest people when it comes to food. I actually like all of the things I should eat. Of course, I have developed a taste for too many that I shouldn't eat, too, but I never said I was perfect. After my friends and family were stunned by my diagnosis of advanced malignancy in the last days of the year 2000, they all went nuts at the health food stores. I was swamped with books from our "health food" friends, print outs from my DD's friend at Whole Foods, and bushels of wholesome foods and teas and herbs. When I was finally able to concentrate enough to read and comprehend, I began devouring all of the printed material provided by my angels. To this day, it is a mystery to all of us that a malignancy was able to get a toe hold in this bod, but I took to heart all of the advice of knowledgeable folks, and instead of feeling guilty about indulging in strawberries in mid-winter, I now feel virtuous. When I see a beautiful head of cabbage, I buy it and enjoy. Blueberries were only bought for my granddarling before, but now I treat myself often and regularly. Grapes, the skin, seeds and all, are part of my diet. Cherries are not reserved for company, I deserve them, too. Make that "require them". Asparagus, ah, at last, a good reason to splurge. Nuts, dried fruits, spinach, green tea, olive oil, all of these things I love, now aren't resisted. I could list dozens more, but you already know what they are. So I came home with bags full of anti-medicine, delicious tempting produce. It's funny, I almost enjoyed shopping last night.
