Eric, you will want to keep an eye on your mail box in a day or two. There is a package on it's way from us here at the brug group. (I think Arlene and TiG are the only two who know what is in it, well besides me, I know what's in it!!)
Something for Brugman
hmmmm and the excitement grows......
goody, goody!!! let's see, an 8 foot double fuscia brug...
Oh Arlene, you went and spoiled the surprise!!
I have an idea, but I'll keep it to myself right now. Curiosity killed the cat!!
maybe a case of johnny walker red
at least if it's that he won't waste it on the bugs:) Can't wait to 'see' his face.
I think so, lol. I couldn't remember if I told you or not.
Cala,
I think he will like it.
Come on you teasers. Somebody tell me what it is. The suspense of it is killing me. I promise to zipper my lips. He'll never get it out of me. Hehe
Ahh, the excitement builds. Only aurea hybrids in my collection...not to mention a huge supply of Tigs hybrids with no names....don't ask...but somehow the name tags all came out of my hybrids. Luckily for me I can tell a few of them by leaf shape. Of course I have been glued to the mailbox these past few days already...here's hoping I have so many seeds from the hybrids I already have this year that we will have to open a seperate forum trying to find enough people to grow them all. Someone asked me how I could be sure that a moth did not pollinate one of my flowers after I pollinated them or even before in some cases. After hearing that I decided that they were quite right...hence I am proud to annouce only aurea's in my collection and hybrids with some aurea background. It took me quite a bit of culling and a very helpful friend or two, but I have finally managed to only have aurea's and aurea hybrids....boy do I ramble incessantly about nonsense. I guess I must confess without all of you I would not have been able to reduce my plant collection like I have and for that I am thankful as I find it extremely hard to kill named hybrids...my own hybrids...well thats a piece of cake.
Of course, with the advent of mail coming I have thought how nice it would be to create a pink flowered Suaveolens x aurea hybrid....or perhaps a new orange candida...or a new....ahh, whatever it is I am sure I will be in heaven and you can rest assured that seeds will find there way here or somewhere for all to share.
Thanks Bunches,
Brugmansia
Brugman - it takes a very special kind of person who would thank others for relieving him of his brugs.
I'm especially anxious to see what the one plant is that Eric sent that he pulled out of his garden and stuck in the box. You don't suppose I could be the lucky one that got that plant from seed that will be a double pink or something close. In any case, I'm watching it like a hawk.
Liz,
I can clearly see I have the wool pulled over your eyes. Not to worry, I will try to get some seeds out to everyone if I can just come up with some descent crosses this year. I have to make up for the bad boy I was last year after all.
Sincerly, I must thank all of you for everything you guys/gals have done for me over this past year. A few more than others I am sure, but rest assured I will remember you all this coming year with seeds as I plan on setting more seeds than I could ever possibly grow myself this year and all aurea hybrids to boot.
and we can't wait:)
Me too, me too!!!
Eric,
I hope that I can participate in the seed growing. I would really like to be a part of it. I planted my first seeds early January and I now have beautiful little seedlings putting on their 3rd and 4th leaves. It is quite a experience for a person learning.
I want to know why everyone's seeds come up faster than mine??? Waaaaah.
I can't even get mine to come up.....the last one that came up was planted back in October. It just came up a couple of weeks ago.
I think some seeds take longer than others - why, I don't know. I still do not know enough to understand the variance in sprouting time. It is hard for me to believe that some are poking thru in 2 weeks and others take months.
Maybe Brugman could help us out and tell us why or someone else that has planted a lot of seeds in the past.
Yay!!!! I finally had a James pop it's little head out of the dirt today. Planted on Christmas.
i have seed fear. so silly. too wet/not wet enough...i like plain old seeds you throw out on the ground and they come up! i like cuttings!!! hoping all you seed people will share cuttings with me someday.
Oh Snow- thank goodness - I put James in at the beginnng of January - you mean there is hope??
makes me feel better too Liz, I think it's just they know it's winter, and are taking their sweet time.
Have you ever tried covering yur fertilized blooms with something to keep the moths out. Like - for instance, I read somewhere on here to cover the seed pods of Dats with a Knee hi stocking so you woudn't lose them.. I did this and it worked fine. I think the same could be done with brugs.
PS - They look real funky!!

There's hope Liz. LOL. Only one has come up so far. Hoping the rest will come up in the next few days.
All my LA ones are up too. They sprouted much quicker as they were planted the same time as the James.
Arlene, You know that whatever I have that you don't I will send to you as soon as they are big enough.I have a versi Peach x Butterfly seedling that I think you might like. :)
That's good to hear. I put in the LA area species and the James at the same time. All the LA areas have been up for a few weeks but James is taking his own sweet time.
Yep. Also have a unknown species which hasn't sprouted at all yet.Have three white Pearl x Big that I'm babying.Keeping my fingers crossed they'll sprout soon.
It sounds as though everyone is having success with their seeds. Isn't it exciting. They are time consuming, but worth it.
Arlene, I will be glad to share cuttings if I have something different than you already have.
F.
I've never heard of James. Is this one that one of you hybridized? Would love to hear about it.
Shirley,
I have a plant of James but since it is small yet I don't know what color it is either but I will try to find out from the guy that sent it to me.
Thanks Gloria,
Soon there will be so many out there that we won't be able to keep up at all.
James is an Orange color from what I hear. Hybridized over 20 years ago as well if I remember correctly. It simply was not released until recently.
James is supposed to be an orange turning to deep orange from what I was told.
Very True Brugie,
Hence, I almost always cross yellows to pinks, pinks to pinks, and oranges to pinks, and only rarely whites to any of the above. Most generally a white is good as a seed setter only in my book, but they can also have recessive colors hidden in them. Darker peachs, pinks, oranges,...early, repeat, heavily blooming, fast growing Brugmansia's are also a plus though...especially if they have an intense fragrance. Ease of rooting is also something I look for and believe one can hybridize for. I personally find that hybrids with a bit of suaveolens in the mix tend to root very easily.
