Question For All You Brug Lovers

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Beside a double pink what two brugs would you be looking to purchase? I would like to see everyone's wish list as I think this would be very informative and fun to see.

Hi, Frannie, everyone wants Lamour, and nobody has it! last spring i had 3 kinds, now i have 30 something? and some of my favorites are some of Brugman's hybrids. the europeans have gorgeous brugs, but i am thinking with everyone here getting hot on hybridizing we should be able to make our own beauties. gonna have to have someone come in and help get some land ready, where will i put anymore?

I have no doubt that you will be one of those that can hybridize a beauty. Yes, if the Europeans can do it, so can we. By the way, I wish I were closer to you - I would be glad to come help with getting land ready.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Frannie, that remains to be seen. the moths snuck in and did a job on mine this year. gonna have to get out early in the year and try some before the moths grow up. I did have some expert lessons from Brugman, here's hoping.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Full Rosea Majic and Angel Dream. both double pinks, sorry:) Other than that, I'm satisfied with what I have. I have Brugmans best and Glorias, and seeds from everyone, now if I can just grow them up:)

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I hope to get double pink someday, This is beautiful!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I'd like to get some of the sanguinea hybrids and the vulcanicola. I could probably come up with a zillion other wants too...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have always wanted Hofwil, but it is from overseas. I like them all, and I'm sure those of you who have longer growing seasons will come up with some beauties over the next few seasons. I'll be happy with the new ones I'm getting this year. Of course, next year I'll be on the hunt again!!

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

I would love to get some of the sanguinea hybrids and one of the double pinks but Gosh...If I posted my wish list, Dave's server would probably run out of disk space! I had about 10 varieties about 2 yrs. ago but lost most of 'em when we moved. Most of my cuttings just didn't make it. Brugie has been so gracious as to help me rebuild a collection. Hey Brugie...remember way back when we didn't even know what a Brug was???

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, it kinda sounded like a dirty word. We will work on getting you back up to speed though. You know that I'll have cuttings available this fall, but until then--????

Wait until you run across a thread and see how the brugers in the south pronounce brugmansia. I think we are in the minority here.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Another Question: What cross between two brugmansias do you think would potentially produce not only a pretty flower but a strong plant? I know all of you must have some thoughts on this. I am just trying to get educated here!! I am among the best - - right?? I'll answer that, YES I am.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm wanting to see a cross of Culebra and L'Amour. Especially if it would have the Culebra leaves in the end and the pink color. I'm sure there could be a bunch of beauties discovered out there with all the plants people have to work with.

(Zone 6a)

I would love to have a Butterfly and Pink Lady if I had to narrow my wish list down to just two:) L. Amour and Tropical Sunset would be my next two.....guess that makes four already and I am just getting started:)

Owen

PS: I think Butterfly has everything going for it other than not being a double. So I think crossing a nice double white with Butterfly would be nice. I don't know anything about L. Amour or the other nice pinks other than their beautiful colors.

Brugie - culebra and L'amour sure would be beautiful if it turned out as you suggested.

Owen - I like your idea also - a double butterfly hopefully.

Who knows, we just might see some of these crosses in the near future and they will be from our own club. Wouldn't that be wonderful.

Well, I would most certainly like those crosses as well. I have culled anything in my collection that is not an aurea or has aurea in it with the exception of a few arborea's, flava's, and a single vulcanicola so heres hoping I will have some nice seeds to share with everyone this coming fall. Of course I think many of you will have tons of seeds thanks to your own hybridizing efforts much sooner than this. I will say Candida species is much easier to set a seed pod to than some of the other Doubles. I personally am leaning towards either a double pink aurea or a very mixed double pink with aurea being the predominant species...boy am I picky. Still, a double pink Suaveolens x aurea would be wonderful as well or even a double pink suaveolens....My head is spinning. Lets just try and create as many aurea and double seed pod crosses as we can this year. I know thats all I am now capable of making...course I think that was done to elimate the moth factor from inadvertently adding versicolor, suaveolens, or insignis type pollen to my crosses. Now, if one of them takes some arborea pollen to an aurea or a double and I get some seeds out of that...well, I certainly won't complain.

Brugmansia,
Can't hardly wait for some of those special seeds.
I am curious as to why you prefer the aurea. There must be many reasons and since you have had so much experiences with probably all species, I was just wondering.
