seeking Hakonechloa 'Aureola'

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I have to have this grass to do one main area I have in mind. Will trade children, they're grown and don't sass too bad. Can you help?

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Does anyone know if this grass dies down and then returns in the spring? I bought a small pot last year never really got going - sure hope it comes back this year. It is fairly reasonable at Naylor Creek...and their shipping isn't bad either. Brenda

so far that is the best price I've found. was it a nice plant for the price? would hate to get two blades, but I'd hate to wait until spring and not be able to find it either.

Price for the plants is extremely reasonable, shipping is high! I also wonder about size of plant. WOnder why they cannot just stuff the plants into a Priority Mail box, and ship for $3.95 as we do, instead of charging $12! One nursery I saw charges 45% of the plant total for shipping! John

What nursery is that, John or can't you say here? Sure don't want to order from them. What do they pack those plants in, shredded gold?

Roslyn Nursery charges 45% of the plant total, with a minimum of $20 shipping and handling charge IF you are WEST of the Mississippi; 20% EAST of the MS River, minimum $10 s/h charge. Checked my catalogue again, and they DO have the Hakonechloa aureola for $12.95. I do not know about the ornamental grasses, but their perennials are sold mostly in 4 1/2 inch (quart) pots.

naylor creek charges $10 if I'm remembering correct. I may have to just place my order and grin and bear it, I have to have this.

tiG, the way to go with Naylor is order more than one item. In the 2001 catalog, priority mail shipping was $6 for 1-5 plants. In fact, it cost them more than that to mail mine. If you have an area you want to fill you will need multiple plants. It was not 2 blades but not huge. I think it was a 4 inch pot. Right now it looks pretty dead so I am hoping it comes back. I'd heard rave reviews and beautiful pictures but mine just sat there - didn't seem to grow at all. It certainly has a way to go before dividing. Brenda

thanks Brenda, I'll have to get more than two:) I have one good nursery not too far, and they specialize in rare plants. Going to take a little trip and see if they carry this first, but if not, I'm going to order from naylor, thanks for the recommendation.

tiG, what local nursery specializes in rare plants? My kind of nursery and I'm not too terribly far from you. With days like today, one can get a bit of spring fever. Ya know? Brenda

Rare Plants in Peachtree City, it's fabulous!! Maybe we can set up a date to meet??

(Zone 7a)

I ordered this plant from Naylor Creek and they CAME YESTERDAY! I wrote please ship at earliest date on the order form. lol
Anyway, One was definitely larger than the other. It looks like they came from a full 4" pot with some soil removed. One had about 12 small eyes (for lack of correct grass term), the other about seven. If this was a fast grower I would be delighted but alas it is slow. They are about what I expected. Some of the other plants in this order were excellent. I have another Hak. coming in trade this week. : ) I figure if it is so slow, I'll start out w/ alot of them.

tiG, sounds good to me. Do you want to wait a little closer to spring? Let me know. Brenda

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Let me call and find out when they start getting or putting out new things. I might even swing by and see how the inventory is looking. I'll let you know! (got to save some money, I love their plants!)

Just keep me posted...Brenda
