Brand New Member w/ Lot's of ?'s

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Hello all....
Well...to begin...I'm brand new to this group. Joined just yesterday... Right now, I feel a bit awkward posting to a group of people I don't even know...but I guess I've got to start somewhere.. so here goes....
I have a few brugs (from cuttings)over-wintering in the house right now, and need to learn more about brug culture. Hopefully, I'll be able to expand my meager collection this year. I know...get to the reason for posting..right?
I bought some (expensive) brug seeds from a well known supplier last fall and planted them according to the instructions..however...I'm still looking at a barren pot of soil on the heat mat, after many attempts. The seeds looked very dry (almost crumbly) when they arrived and I am wondering if they were probably too old to be viable. I think I got ripped off. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks..... Renee

hi RT!!!! welcome to our group, you'll be taken care of here. You come highly recommended:)
As for the seeds, it's possible they were too old. I still have some seeds for newbies to our group, so click on my name and send me your address. As for those seeds, if it were me, I'd give up the space and start over, but there are some seeds that take up to a year. But I've never had a dry crumbly seed.
Anyway, we're so glad to have you here, and hope you'll feel right at home.

Hi tiG...and thanks a bunch for your kind and generous welcome! Already, I'm beginning to get that warm, fuzzy feeling and I have only been here "officially" for less than one day!
I have been reading many of the previous posts and am so happy to have found a place with folks who share the same passion as I do. The gracious way that incident earlier in the week was handled convinced me that this was indeed the group I wanted to join. I am looking forward to meeting all of you members. And Yes...I agree...Tossing out the old seeds and soil and starting new is the thing to do. I don't know what I thought would happen after such a long time without a sign of germination-duh???
Thanks Again, tiG..... Renee

Hi Ruby T.

Glad you made it. I won't take up space talking to you here right now. Can do that other ways. Just glad you finally came on board. You will like everyone here. I've learned a lot over the last few months and gained a lot of new friends.

Welcome Ruby!

Eh RubyT,
Greetings from Canada. I'm also new to the group and have cuttings that I started back in November. I've learned an enormours amount from this community of people. Everyone is just great and in fact they are like an extended family of sorts.

I post questions frequently as I'm learning too. I bought Priessel's Book on Brugmansia and Datura and find the information valuable. Its clear and concise and very well written, but unfortunately it lacks enough pictures of the more common Brugsmansia. In fact the book is just a tease and makes you yearn for more.

The group are great about posting pictures of what different types of Brugs look like. They also are great about sharing their seeds and I thank those people who have been kind to me in doing so.

Tonny was good enough to post links to various sites that have both pictures of Brugsmansia and additional information.

Brugmansia (Eric) is a wealth of information as is Calalily, Gloria, Brugcrazy and some others. I'm still learning names of people in the group.

Glad to have you with the group.

Welcome Ruby!
Just a thought - you said crumbly seeds - did you peel off the seedcoat first before planting?

Welcome Ruby, watch out, you'll be more addicted each day and trying to find room to put all these plants. LOL. Glad you're here.

Hi Ruby T
Welcome to this great forum. I am new like you, therefore I am still learning. You would not believe the stack of paper that I now from printing information off of this site. You will learn a lot and find that everyone is kind and thoughtful.

Ruby T. will be here soon. I just talked to her from her car. She has been really busy. Didn't want you all to think that she didn't care. If I were as busy as she is, I'd be thin. :-)

Welcome, Ruby T! I'm new to brugs, too, and everyone here has helped me so much and been generous beyond belief! You'll have the permanent warm fuzzies pretty soon ~ about the time you start jonesin' when you haven't checked in for a day or so. Something that'll help a lot is to read the previous posts. I'm on the fourth page back and have learned so much already!

Again, welcome!
