How are you guys doing? We've noticed less folks posting to the threads lately - c'mon guys, don't jump ship! We can do this! So far, I've been okay this week, but I know I need to step up and do some exercise of some sort if this weight is going to come off. It's hard not to envy Howie and his 27 pound loss, but I have to remind myself that it's typical for guys to lose weight faster, especially at first. But I still need to take some walks since my metabolism is slower.

We tried walking tonight after Howie got home from work, but he was really sore and we weren't able to go far. We're planning to take a walk before he goes to work tomorrow, though, since his back hurts much less first thing in the day. (More below)

Today's Dieter's Devotional:
From "Devotions for Dieters" by Dan R. Dick

A woman I know carried a pocket New Testament with her wherever she went. Often I would see her pull it out of her pocketbook and begin reading. One day I asked her why she seemed so intent on her reading whenever I saw her. She said, "I read it whenever I get hungry. I'm trying to control my weight, so whenever I feel a physical hunger, I feed myself spiritually instead. It takes my mind off my hunger and puts it where it should be - on the Lord." What a wonderful lesson; if we will find new ways to include God in our diet, He will turn our thoughts where they need to be!

Today's Thought: There are ways to be fed (spiritually) without getting fat!

Today's Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 -- http://bible.whitinger.net/showverse.php3?vid=16844

I think even if you're not a religious person, this has a good message. Is there something you can carry with you to remind yourself of why you're dieting? Maybe a picture of your family, for and with whom you want to live a long life? Maybe a poem that's been an inspiration to you? Maybe a book about someone who's overcome some great obstacle in his or her life? The possibilities are endless...What would help motivate you? :)
