DG Round-Up Plans

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I thought some of you might have missed the plans for the DG Round-Up and plant swap on June 29th at Crossville, TN .This discussion has been going on in general Discussion for some time I posted all the links to the threads here. The latest one being the first one posted this has the prices for cabins and camping . Its time to get reservations made so thought it would be a good idea to post this in other forums in case you missed it. Promises to be a good time and a great chance to meet other Dave's Gardner's. You will find all the plans made so far in these threads. Hope everybody can come.

How many of my cousins will be there or how many of the Gang will be there?

Hey, maybe we could post some of the plants, bulbs, etc that we have and can bring to the round-up and folks can list some of the things they would like to have. We'd get an idea of what is to come.

I am in the process of digging up a bunch of daylilies at an old abandoned house. There's no way I'll have room for all of them (my daughter and I dug up a small portion and there were easily 30 bulbs in our bucket). I can bring some with me to the roundup if anyone is interested.

What do you think of posting our wants/haves for the roundup? Too soon? Bad idea? Hush, already? :)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That's a terrific idea, Carla......so much easier to transport if you have a long drive! Ohh, do I love Day Lilies.....new to them as of last year, but I'm really getting into them now!

I'm a nut. I didn't mean daylilies. I already dug those guys up last fall (70 of them, in all).

I meant daffodils. Silly me. I took both girls (mistake to take a 2 year old to dig up plants, by the way). I'm estimating we dug up 400 or so bulbs (some of them very small) and we still don't have everything. After a couple of hours, a dirty diaper and running out of buckets, we decided to come back another day...maybe tomorrow.

Oh, and the 400 number isn't a typo. I counted 70 in one bucket and estimated the rest. And that doesn't count the ones from last night, which I now believe to be closer to 100. Amazing.

I dug up a couple of things I don't even know what they were. I'll post a picture of the one that's flowering on the ID forum.

I'll quit rambling now. Needless to say, I have some daffs I can bring to the roundup.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

......daffs are cool, too!

smilin, I love daffs! If you decide to trade some before then, I'm game. BTW, I finally mailed Bethany's check, I wanted it to be on Laura's birthday so it went out yesterday. She would have been 36 years old, hard to imagine!

My neighbor & I did the same thing last spring - we lined the wooded path between our houses with them. They had been there so long they were just growing on top of each other and needed thinning sooo badly. Lot's of them were small as you say so have not bloomed this year - but they will grow - we just figured we "rescued" them!! Enough have bloomed this year that we are proud of what we did. Of course we asked the land owner's permission before we did this - they were in a field where horses are kept.

Aimee, I guess we'll have to see how to forward the check to the American Heart Association, as all money had to be turned in prior to the jump rope event. I'll figure it out, though. BTW, I'm 36. Strange? :)

As a side note, Bethany raised more than $300 and the elementary school raised well over $25,000 for AHA. They raise more money than any other school in the state. :)

Azalea, I've been told that bone meal will help them store up more nutrients, too, which will give them more to grow with. :)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes, I know about the bone meal, but alas, we had sooo many we just didn't do it!! I was planting dafs for weeks and gave tons of them away - what fun!!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

That's my goal. I told my husband that we were going back for more tomorrow or next Saturday and he thought I was being greedy. "What are you planning to do with all of the ones you have?" was his question. :) Ever heard that?

Well, they're going to be destroyed when the abandoned house is demolished. Why let them go to waste? I can give them away quite easily. We're taking the ones that are blooming to nursing home residents, too. That's easy, provides them a welcomed lift and it's practically free (need to find some more containers to plant them in). :)

Not a lot of guys really understand these things, eh?

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Today, a year later - my neighbor suggested we take a picnic lunch and go dig some more, lol!! Right now I am not in the mood - they are starting to bloom again in that field, but we worked at the Southeastern Flower Show for the past 2 days. My back is killing me, I am not used to standing on my feet all day - she is about 15 years younger than me. We had fun tho, made Tussie Mussies all day!!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

In the right environment, they certainly naturalize well. That field must be just great. :) If you were any closer, I'd come and dig for you.
