Apparently it has become highly illegal to deal in brugs without proper paperwork.
on this forum, anyone can see that the plant swap is going to be at the flea market in defuniak springs roughtly at 1000.
my question, should it be moved to a "secret" location? i can just imagine the feds patrolling the flea market waiting for all us criminals to pull up in the pickups and set up shop.
there will be ALOT of different brugs from quite a few different people. i myself dont have the first certificate.
thoughts anyone?

Serious thought
Isn't it sad. more than sad. i don't know that i have any that need certs. if they are being sold in the USA already, they wouldn't need one? so sad. wonder if the "friends" who advised brug police to come here are still here.....so sad.
well gosh, i wonder if valley grow has everything in order.
youre right arlene, it IS sad.
on a really really sad note, do you think they would put the fbi spy equipment that is supposed to be used for terrorists on this site/our email? isn't it sad that the question even came into my head?
Now, that could be scary. Having all my mail read by someone else. It is bad enough that we don't know if or when someone might come knocking, but getting into mail can be rather personal. I don't think there is anything in there that I'd be concerned about, but someone might see that once in a while I lose control of my mouth and say a bad word or two. Hate having to admit that. Guess I'm human.

don't think they have time for us. We're not talking about sneaking plants into the country. We're talking about plants we've had! I don't understand that. I can see if something comes now without going through proper channels.
As for the plant swap, please don't post here where it will be or time or anything. We all know who's coming, now it's just where. and email is fine for that. We're not dealing drugs, I won't be scared by this, even though I completely expect the brug police to show up here. I have been very vocal, and 'someone' has my address.

We aren't doing anything illegal here folks. We aren't even selling plants and if we were, several of us have the proper Florida licenses for that. And yes,Valley Growers have all their ducks in a row.
I agree with JT....I just hate that Cala had to be the brunt of someones sick joke.
Even though I live too far away to go to the swap don't let anything ruin your fun.I know everyone has gone to a lot of trouble to find a suitable place to meet and I will pray that it will be a safe place for you all to have fun meeting and swapping plants.
Well, I guess it was best it was me, I'm pretty tough, mine were all "legal" and maybe now they will be satisfied. Hopefully whomever did it won't be taken seriously next time.
My two cents worth on the subject:
I think we can all rest (or unrest) assured that the brug police have either read or soon will read all the available brug postings in all the brug forums, and will continue to do so. Just a hunch, nothing more.
I think it would be unwise to post any messages that we would not want public. Of course, that is just common sense, and always has been. But sometimes we do forget that these postings are public, and it is becoming increasingly clear that we may want to give some thought to our postings, in that regard. May be just me, but I don't feel all that comfortable, even though I have no brugs from overseas, and am down to only 7 plants. I still would like to have the newer, colorful ones, but will keep records from now on about where I get them....don't want to cause myself unnecessary problems. Have enough problems in my life as it is:)

tig, if "someone" has your address because you ordered seeds, she could hardly report you for having illegal seeds if this "someone" sent them to you, eh?
furthermore, isnt that a violation of consumer laws for her to drop your name and addy? id say that borders on harassment.
just wondering
jen
well, I asked in that long ugly thread last night how she could say any of us had 'illegal' brugs just because we didn't order them from her. She said she knew where everyone got almost everything cause it's all in the old posts. Now I don't have one that I think is illegal. But I don't want to have to go through the hassle of having them here and worrying. But just let them come. I guarantee I will not be nice about it like Cala is being. Liz said I never turn away from a fight and as much as I don't want it, if it starts, then I say bring it on. We can start with harassment and go from there. I might just end up owning some legal Euro brugs!! LOL!! okay, I'm a lot of talk, but really, why can't she just leave us alone? Did anyone really expect Cala to have to go through this? No, and it still happened. so it could happen to anyone.
This concerns me greatly, as I have hundreds of seedlings from my own hybrids created from american hybrids or hybrids that have been in the USA for so many more years than just 2 or 3. To think I just recently got rid of most of my hybrids that had been here for overe 2 years and now here I am left with a very few Brugmansia I have recieved from a local nursery that probably doesn't even remember me. This same nursery often sells Brugmansia that are incorrectly labeled as well. I have seen Brugmansia sold as Datura arborea that were really Candida species and Varigated Peaches and Creme simply sold as varigated peach....Furthermore, this nursery buys Brugmansia at different times of the year and they do not always carry the same ones. I am assuming that this is also the case in other small towns all over the USA so its not just me. I have to wonder if my seedlings which are less than a year old will be held until I can verify they are grown from seed from me? Lol, this is all so terrible.
Eric, no, they accepted that I had grown them from seed, especially when my own USDA inspector verified that. Plus I had over a hundred pods hanging on the plants. They wanted to know where in the USA I got the plants from, but since I wasn't there, Bill said they would have to call and ask me. What they were most concerned with were the supposed "Overseas" brugs I had since someone had told them I had thousands of them. I can only wish, right? Oh to be able to afford a thousand European hybrids and the postage!! and to fit them in my little green house!!
Brugman, hopefully vicki hasn't called them on you. i think they would have to take your word that they are your hybrids unless they can prove otherwise. If this were a big deal law, seems the nurseries would tell the buyers to save the receipts. this is the stupidest law, brugs aren't food and aren't invasive. i believe if you bought in the usa they must be legal unless proven otherwise. and of course anything bought from overseas, that doesn't have the paperwork, probably died anyway.
