I've been kicking around the trade list idea.Unless I work up a spead sheet in WORD I can't get things to come up in here as a list. How do you guys do it?Also thinking of abriviations for Plant=PL(plant will be rooted cutting) ,Cutting=C,Seed=S ,Pollen=PO.So if first we enter Name,Color, whats available,or N/A.Now do you think it should be kept in groups of pinks with pinks, whites with whites,or alphabetical,or by class,ex Aurea,Candida......Then should we have seperate posting for wants?Need some imput, come on guys.....Lets get this going, springs comin.....
Getting trade lists
do you mean on a post or in your trade list? On your trade list, you have to enter everything individually.
No,remember we were going to start a list and keep it current so everyone can have their brugs listed,so before we put out big bucks for one we want we can check the list to see if anyone has one for trade.
yes, okay, gotcha. I thought we also needed to start one for the swap in FL but that would be lots of different plants. I didn't have any trouble typing a list, tried in preview, but to be certain, type < br > after the end of each line, but take out the spaces. Don't know that you could get the abbreviations in there, what if we each so a spreadsheet and share them?? Or do it in our trade lists, but under brug you could put them all. would be much easier and you could edit it when you get more or are out. Just make one entry into the trade list, then edit it to show everything we have. These posts get pushed off, and get off track and get very long. just a thought.
CC, click on my name and go to trade lists. then scroll down to the brugmansia entry. wouldn't this work? then we can enter a category for cuttings, seeds, plants, all.
Its up to you guys,it would just be eaiser to have a list instead of constantly, clicking on a name and then going to their list, and then you have to mail them to find out what they have available, and then find another name and do it again, until you find someone who has what you want. There was some interest in it before .......
that's true CC, just one long post might be easier. I don't have anything left to cut on right now, but need to get a list togehter for spring.
Would we list all Brugs that we have with future trades also in mind or just what we know will be big enough in the spring for cuttings?
I won't have cutting material in the spring. Mine will all be late summer or fall.
I will have some to offer in the spring Brugie but it will be limited as lots of my plants will be too small for cuttings.
We could maybe write AVL6/02 (available june of 2002) or something like that to estimate when you expect them to be available,no one is locked into making them available, and just because you have something available doesent mean you have to trade it.But someone who's looking for that plant could say,"hum,so and so will probably have that available in june so I'll hold off buying till I find out,and try to obtain something thats on that other persons wish list so they can trade it in June(or when its available)."Or if someone has a culubra blooming and they want a specific pollen, they can see who has the plant they want to polinate with and contact them to see if its in bloom, then you don't have to get a cutting and wait for it to grow and bloom. Also there should be a designation for the ones that are available for postage, that way we don't have to put down "for trade only" on the special hybrids
good points. I'll try to get my lists together this week.
What if a spreadsheet was started and entered under one person whom everyone agree's to. Would everyone be able to go in and edit to add to it or just the member it belongs to?? Seems like one list in one location would make things alot easier. Just a thought. Dee
Thats what I'm trying to get at,but don't quite know how to do it.
I don't know if you could use a spreadsheet on daves. I've seen something that violet posted on her seedtrades, but it's just a huge image. Dave might have an answer for us if we ask nicely.
Also,to keep from getting requests for brugs that are "A" list brugs for postage just list them as N/A.That means you have it but there is none available. It will also let other traders know not to offer that one in trade to you because you already have it.Or STO(special trades only)If we all just list that we have frosty pinks and CG's ,we will still be in the same boat.So say someone has the elusive double pink,Make it N/A but list it as pollen only if you don't mind parting with some or say the cuttings won't be available till 6/03.We could state something at the begining of the list about brug ediquitte.(and spelling???)
good plan!!!
This doesn't apply, but until you came up with trying a new idea, I was just going to make my list and email everyone I trade with first to give them first choice and then open it up with a post on the forum. Like someone mentioned, those special brugs can't go out to just everyone. All of you who are brug fanatics, and we know who we are, those who are trying hard to hybridize, etc. are the ones who should get first choice, from me anyway. I don't really know the best way to get the cuttings out, but I don't want to run out of stuff that my brug friends want and didn't have a chance to get at first. Does this make any sense? There are a lot of people from my past trades who just want!! I want those who can really use the brugs for a purpose, other than just having them, to have first choice. I don't want to sound snooty here, just want to do right by people who have helped me out.
Thought I should come back and clarify that none of those past trades were people from DG. You guys are all great.

All,
I just sent a message to Dave outlining what we are looking to do and asked for any help/suggestions. How ya'll didn't mind. Dee
CC and tiG,
When you get this figured out, can I come to you for help in making my trade list? I've never done it before and hope I'm not too old to learn. I hope I didn't offend anyone by my last post. It certainly wasn't intended to do that. I just have some special people who get first choice, as I'm sure most of you do. I'd love it if all the brugs we have would produce enough cuttings for everyone. I'm sure there will be a few that we can't take cuttings from because they are heavy with pods too, but gee, seeds would be great too.
I can't wait to get started. Come on SPRING!!
S.
not offended at all Brugie, I hope Dave can come up with something easy for us:) and I certainly understand about 'favorite' traders. It's not that we'd leave anyone out, but if you're like me, I owe tons of people first dibs on anything special because of what all they've given me. But like CC mentioned, to know where I could find a special pollen would be wonderful.
This is certainly do-able. I can put together a custom trade list that all the members of this forum share. I'll get to this soon.
Dave
you da man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. I've sent a message to go_vols and see if she has any input before I proceed. We'll work out the details between us and when the feature-set is ironed out, I'll put this together. Once we get past the design of it, the programming will happen rather quickly.
My idea is something similar (yet simpler in design) than the standard DG tradelist area. Then, when each member adds a brug to this new area, it will appear in the large "master list" that can be viewed all on one page.
Dave
I love it when a plan comes together. CC, you had a great idea and it looks like it is going to happen. This should be so much easier than going to each person's trade list. Now, I might still need some help!!
I knew Dave could fix it!! he's great.
Okay, help me out here. Suppose the product is finished and you are now going to go into this new Brug Trade List and enter in your inventory so everyone can see it.
What fields are appropriate to have to fill out? From what I have read above, it looks something like this:
Species (we already know the family and genus)
Bloom color (what possibilities are there?)
Type of offering (Cutting, Plant, Pollen, Seed, pulldown menu)
Number of offers you have available
Date they will be available (defaulting to present day but can be changed to reflect a future date)
I can't think of any other fields that would be needed at this time. Well, once this information is gathered, a nice and pretty page that has all the members' offerings in one central location, dubbed something like "The Master Brug Trade List" or something equally impressive sounding. :)
Thoughts? The sooner we get past this stage of planning, the sooner we can get the whole thing moving (and finished!)
Dave
don't know if this will fit or not, but what about 'special trade only' 'pollen when available' 'for postage'
good idea tig..
Just a thought....now that we can't trade with our friends in Canada, maybe there could be a section for US and one for Canada so that people don't have to try to figure out who is from where. That would give the Canada people a reason to post their trades too.
S.
Good stuff.
tiG: So you mean an "Availability Status" like we have in the generic DG tradelists? For example, you choose which you want, like:
"Available for Trade Only"
"Trade or SASE"
and so forth?
Also, perhaps a checklist that says that you can send pollen (when available) on a plant-by-plant basis?
Brugie - good idea on the location. Since we already have this info on each member, I can simply include it in the view pages.
Keep the ideas coming!
Dave
yes, dave that would work. maybe should be different from the cutting, plant, seed box? just a thought, trying to visualize using it, so it's hard to say, but I think they might need to be two different boxes.
Yes, of course.
you guys are good, you dont need me at all!!Just so you know, wasent ignoring all the posts,I go to bed at 3pm ,get up at 10:30 ,get to work at 11:30 pm,and I punched out at 11:30 am.All those Ideas are great, especially getting a seperate place for it.Dave ,as tiG said you da man!!!
Indeed. It will, however, require you to update your member preferences and give us a city,state/province. Otherwise, no location will be shown next to your own entries.
