just getting it started
panhandle swap #3
good morning
ya did great tig!!
jen
p.s. did the brug seeds get there yet?
yes ma'am, sorry I didn't let you know. Am going to soak them today, thank yoU!!!!
I'm telling ya,I'm thinking of forgetting the greenhouse,I'm reading about all these plants I'm dying to get and they're all gunna be in one place!!What goods a greenhouse if I don't have all the tropicals to put in it,Oh sure, now the brugs are giving me dirty looks ...Yes,you are my favorite tropicals....See what you made me do?
DH already planning to take one of the long tables out of the greenhouse to make room for the Brugs. That will give them 1/4 of the GH. Something tells me they will wind up with half the GH before it's time to plant them outside.
Snow, try 90%, that's how much room these piggie brugs of mine are taking up in my green house. I did relent a little and put the orchids back on the heat mat when they started to chill. I do feel a little bad that I let my sun coleus plants chill, but ALL the nurseries down here have them and they can be replaced.
well, turns out I can't get to the big get-together in TN so I'm really really really looking forward to this one. I hope to have the yellow lantern plant in the 'cousin' thread, I have quite a few hybrid MG's, hope to have the double white clitoria going, and I'm going through everything now to see what I can have then. will be in small containers so Cala still has room for me:) so cool, I'm counting the days already!!!!!!!!!1
Does anyone have any of that pink pampas grass like in earl's pics? and i guess we still need a time, and to double check with earl, right?
I have some seeds arlene, got them from him. I'll send you some.
Arlene, I have a big pot of the pink pampas if I can fit it in the car, and still have room for TiG and Azalea.
I already emailed Earl and told him the date 16 Mar, if that is still good for everyone. He said he will keep that open for us and is looking forward to meeting all of us. Told him to expect an invasion from the "Brug snatchers", our motto "we want them all, got to have them all". He just laughs and thinks we are funny. Since some are coming on the day of the swap meet, do you think 10:00 or 10:30 might be to early for those driving that same day?? Any thoughts. Also, what about lunch, picnic, eating out ???
If folks rather eat out instead of picnicing, there is McLain's Restaurant that has a buffet, La Bamba's, then of course the usual fast foods, Hardee's, McD's, Arby's--that's all I can think of at the moment--oh, Ed's Restaurant (hamburger joint, too, Mamie's, plate lunch).
if anyone has dahlias to trade at the swap, I'd be very interested.
TiG, I have a few, I think red and/or white ones, maybe a yellow. I will check.
Dee,
10:00 or 10:30 will be great for me....I'll check with the rest of the Mississippi gang.....ok Jen you know what that means ....I'll have to get up very early. :0(

Sundown Inn - $37.45 for 1 person, $5.00 extra per person
Nice person, kinda rundown looking place though. 850-892-9647
Personally, I would go with the Ramada, they seem the most willing to assist. Don't forget, if you are planning on staying the night, you might want to make reservations soon as invasion of the "Spring Breakers" start 1 Mar. Don't know how far away from the beach the breakers stay, but De Funiak is about 45 minutes from the beaches. Hope this helps everyone. If you need anything else let me know and I will do what I can.
Dee
Cala? Azalea?
The Ramada sounds good to me. What do yuo think tiG? Azalea?
sounds great. Are we just staying Friday night? cause they're meeting about 10 or so, or do you need to stay both nights?
Dee... the ramada its in De Funiak yes??? and is it set were we are going to meet???....Also Were is the nearest large airport going to check flights to the area..
Irish, planning a big anniversary weekend?
Irish I just looked up on a map where you are, fortunately read the map wrong, and you aren't so far away!!!! Would so love to meet you though! Are ya really thinking about it???

Irish and all, the hotels are right of I-10, it is the
De Funiak Springs exit. If you want I will find out exactly what the exit number is. You can see the different hotels from the highway.
Irish, big airport, weelll, the biggest would be Pensacola, and that would put you about 1 hour from De Funiak, don't know where abouts Gulfport, FL is, but there is an airport in Panama City and Ft Walton as well, also another option would be to fly into Dothan, AL. There prices sometimes are better, that would put you about 1 - 1 1/2 hours from
De Funiak. If you fly in let me know and I will get you driving directions from where you come into.
If my wife Bobbie keeps improving health wise I might be there also. I have a sister that lives close by and I need to visit her. Looking forward with great anticipation. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Yes tiG we are coming we just looked into flying but I can't belive the price for a one hour flight have a new Chrysler will drive and enjoy the trip BTW Gulfport fl is near ST Petersburg which is across the bay from tampa home of a coachless football team....LOL
Arlene yes a big anniversary weekend ;o)
Thanks Dee looking forward to seeing you all
Pete
Irish, I was wondering how you were gonna take plants home if you flew in. Decided you were just coming to visit.
Well it was realy the wife idea I didn't want to tell her about the possiblity of getting more brugs But I luck out were driving....
Irish, you are looking at about a 7 hour drive. Best bet is to come staight up 75 then to 10. De Funiak exit is after Ponce de Leon, Probably 3 hours or so from Tallahassee, depending on your driving of course. Dee
Hey folks, I know a man in Defuniak that makes rusty garden art. Anyone interested? If so, I could make arrangements for us to visit him also.
gingerlily,
I'm game.....Is there a Home Depot close by in that area?
No Glory. The closest one I know of would be in Pace (Pensacola area) on your way over. That one is brand new, right on highway 90. There's a Lowe's in Ft. Walton about 45 min. from Defuniak but I've never heard of a Home Depot down there.
We have Home Depot and Lowe's down in PC, that would be about 1 hour away.
dee
Thanks Dee will be making revations at the Ramada Limited.
will get up there early evening on the 15th as of now don't expect things to change but you never know.
Pete
I just wanted to introduce myself and get a little sympathy since I have recently become afflicted with a new disease. My symptoms include but are not limited to: buying every plant that has a long hanging down blooms with a great aroma, drawing plans to build a greenhouse myself (haven't needed one for 50 some odd years but I do now), cutting and rooting one zillion plants a day with nowhere to put them and driving an 1 1/2 just to visit a nursery on my only day off for months.
I live in Panama City, Fl and have corresponded with a few people at Daves. I have just been reading everything written on this site to learn all I can about growing plants as I am new to this.
I visited Earls today and was in heaven looking at and learning about Brugmansia.
