I may be able to get some for you when I make a trip into Los Angeles. They are often available in Thai and sometimes Mexican markets. I'm not sure about viablity, but it may be worth a try. Does anybody have any information on how to grow them? It might be fun to try them.

Tim,

That's too much trouble. Email me directly and let me know when you're going. If I can't track some down by that time then I may take you up on it.

Thanks!

I'm going Monday to pick up supplies that aren't available out here in the desert. I'll let you kow if I have any luck. I Usually stop at those markets for the same reason....lots of things aren't available out here. It's no trouble since it's on my regular list of stops and besides, I'm curoius, too.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Violet, pls check this url http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/tamarind.html as i am very much in doubt if the tamarind will grow in ur area unless u have a gigantic green house to grow them in. Tamarind is a tropical plant and can only take more or less 28 degs.F

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

The fruit gets ripe and then the seeds have to be removed from it. The pulp is sticky and acidic.

MaVieRose, I can always bring it inside, other traders have told me they've been able to do this.

Dinu, The pulp is delicious in several recipes. http://www.google.com/search?q=tamarind+recipes
