Freezing brug seeds

(Zone 6a)

Does anyone know if it hurts to freeze brug seeds??

What I really am trying to find out is whether one should send brug seeds in the mail during this freezing winter weather:)

Wish it was warm and I was growing these:

Owen, I don't think it's good for them to freeze. In their native habitat, they wouldn't freeze. One of the "experts" needs to answer this one.

I know they were saying seeds shouldn't freeze ... but I think they were mostly refering to seeds still in the pods on the plants. I think if the seeds are dried properly there shouldn't be any harm from freezing in the mail. I've still been getting them in the mail and I don't see any damage from freezing - so far.

Tomatoes look good, but I don't think it is time yet. I'm not sure I'd want to send seeds through the mail when it is really cold. Only because I would hate to lose them if a freeze could hurt them. Most mail should be housed at night though, shouldn't it. Ours here is.

Ms. Brugie, i figure the worst time would be the wait in the mail box, as otherwise they are pretty much inside a house or vehicle. i am praying that cold doesn't kill them, i planted a bunch of seeds outside. plus you figure if they are in an envelope with bubble wrap and stuff it will keep them warmer, unless it is antartic type weather.

We had some flurries here today, but nothing really bad as far as cold goes. It was windy and I'm sure had I been out in it I would have been chilled to the bone. Instead, I stayed in the house and checked the brugs for bugs. I love the new soil they are in. Haven't had to water them yet and the other stuff required water every two days. Well, it is time for bed, so I'll talk to you later......S

Brugie, what kind of soil? I too have to water every day or two. And what kind of pots do you have them in? Does that make any difference?

I just have my brugs in pots ranging from 4 inch to 8 inch and they are all just pots you would get nursery plants in. Nothing fancy at this stage of the game. I'm now using Pro-Mix and I love it so far. So much less watering, but be sure if you use any of the soiless mixes to add some Osmocote or similar type fertilizer. Hope this helps.
