Spring Plant Trades

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I know its early but I'd like to line up some trades. The reason I doing it this early is that one of the first things I'm looking for I have tried to root 2 times so far and killed them,so I want to trade for some that are already rooted,so I figure if someone wants to trade with me they can cut and root it now so its ready in the spring.Selfish of me but I really want this plant.OK here it comes- "Tibouchina" any one have any they want to trade for?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC.....email me.....

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

you've got mail

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

arlene, if you have more, I'll make a trade for some at the FL plant swap!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Arlene, how do you get it to root? I've killed every one I've tried.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Yes, Arlene I would like to know how to root it also. I have a plant about 18" tall.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I don't know for sure how to root it, my guess is just like a hard to root brug. mine bloomed off and on into December. i am going to take a knife or shovel and divide it at the roots when it starts resprouting.... think i'll have enough for 2-3 of you, will save for CC, tig and cala on 3/16. CC, if you don't find a ride i will mail you yours! maybe we should take up a collection for CC at the trade and mail her some good stuff.

I asked Chuck about coming down,he asked"which would you rather,go down for the plant trade or the greenhouse"Which I don't think is fair!I want both!!!But I've got him talked into trying to get tickets to the Daytona 500 next year,so we will be going to florida,it just might take till next year and then I can get to meet all of you guys!!

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

you have mail

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Have any of you seen the Pink Tibouchina?? I have only seen a picture of one. I have the violet purple one. It died back last month. Hope it resprouts. I received some Pink Tibouchina seeds in a trade so if they do well I will have some to share in the fall. I know one thing though, if that deer don't leave it alone this summer I think I am gonna have to shoot it. He loves my flowers, especially my mexican petunias and tithonia. Dee

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

i didn't know they came in pink, love to see it and good luck with the seeds

Cala,
I root the Tibouchina in sand...dip it in a little tea tree oil diluted before putting it in the sand box.

Gilmer, TX

You have good taste CC. I just got this new book 'What Flower Is That?', and now I can look up all these plants you all talk about. They showed three pink varieties.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

3 of them?I was just looking in the hodnik catalog the other nite and they have a pink one.Its variety"Kathleen"No picture though...MaVie,I gotta check out the links.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I only have seen 2 varities, 'Kathleen' and 'Nolene'. What is the other one. Dee

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Kathleen and Noelene are two of the ones in the my book. The other is "Alstonville" Glory Bush, which may be considered a purple. To me, they aren't purple unless they are purpleeeeeeeee. It is darker than the other two. Sorry I got everyone excited. It also mentioned a white, and T. macrantha that is a deep royal purple. Now that's the one I'd like to find. I'm going to sign up to get plant notifications on that site you had Ma Vie. Sounds like they might have some neat plants from time to time.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

glad to help Pam =)!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

that one site says trimming's will root like crazy when left on the ground. Is that what I'm doing wrong?LOL MaVie,as usual your links are great!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks CC ;), always a pleasure to give a helping hand!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I think sending CC a "care package" would be a great idea. Only why not make what's in it a surprise, well maybe not, what if she already has it?? Still I think the "care package" is a good idea. Dee

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm not proud ,I'll take all the pity plants I can get!!!LOL!!!Thanks for thinking of me!!!But actually,I was thinking of sending a package down and have someone make some trades for me.I'll send a mask with my face on it and my uniform.....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I think a "care" package for CC is a great idea. She has always shared everything she has with us!!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Careful who you send it to CC it might mysteriously disappear. LOL Seriously, you could send to one of us and we could make your trades and send yours back, but then you really don't have to send anything, we could still send you a care package. Dee

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!seriously, you guys don't have to send me anything.Just think about me freezin my butt off while you trade all the tropicals that I'm DYING to get(or even see in person)And while your standing there in the florida heat looking for some shade think of me trudging through the snow to get firewood to put on the woodstove so I can stop shivering. What I should do is send some money down there, and you can all go to Home Depot and go shopping for me!!!I'd love to see the assortment you guys would pick out.Our home depot doesent carry half the good stuff the ones down there do.When I went to North Carolina I loaded up at home depot. You guys are great for thinking of me!!!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

crestedchik, you can come to the roundup in Tennessee in June, and go home with stuff about the time you would normally be able to plant. I just can't stand to think of anyone trudging through the snow for anything at all.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Still working on the DH on that one!We have alot of shows to travel to this year and our budget will be tight, but I told him the tent site is only 13.50 a night and he's thinking. The biggest problem is that the weekend planed is the weekend before the 4th isent it?Cause those weeks are blacked out for time off at work.High seinority people get it off and the rest of us have to work to cover the jobs.I'd have to take the Friday, and Monday off.Not sure they'd let me.Still working on it!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I hope you make it. But if not, send your box and I'll help see that it gets filled and sent back! A girl shouldn't have to work when there's roundup to attend.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

CC, it's fun thinking about filling you a box up full of surprises:)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

ya know,I think I'd like that too.I could just see everyone filing into home depot, looking at plants, everyone shooting off here and there, going back and forth.I think I'd like a video of it more than the plants!I can see the headlines "Home Depot invaded by Plant Crazy Shoppers, accused of pinching pods!"LOL ,I'm just afraid with everything thats planed there wouldn't be time for you guys to go there......

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

CC, I can go there before the big game hunt LOL. My DH says that Home Depot is my favorite store. Has to be since I bought this house last Spring. Never ending things I want to do to the yard and extras to the home. Let me know if there is anything in particular that you want me to look for. By the way just took cuttings of the abutilon m. and put them in pot to root. Keep your fingers crossed they root good. supposed to root very easy. Dee

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Bottom heat--on the cuttings not you-lol. Helps with rooting Tibouchina. Also use rootone. Have some in few weeks if you need it.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I NEED! LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

barbara, you'll have some tibouchina???I'm dying for some!Someone offered me a trade and didn't come through with it.(not anyone who posted here)

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

crestedchik, The cuttings are putting on their first leaves, so it will be several weeks before the root system is ready to be transplanted. Do you happen to have any new brugs, gingers, aroids or cannas to trade?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The only brug I can take a cutting of(that is not on your list )is Rosa Traum, and that would be a green cutting .The others are still pretty small,I have S.white and S.pink, but I don't think you need them.the gingers I have you already have, same with the cannas....I will gladly pay you!!!I really, really, really want this plant. And I don't want it right away so wait till its well rooted. It has been mild here (for this area)but one day it will hit 50 and the next its in the single digits...

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

crestedchik,
I went to greenhouse and discovered I have the Rosa Traum.
I will save a cutting of the tibouchina for you. I am sure we can find something to trade.
Barbara
