Check these out http://www.engelstrompeten.de/neuzucht_2001.htm I'm sick knowing we can't touch them

Yes, I must agree my stomach is churning as we speak. Lets just hope we get lucky with a hybrid like that though. I wouldn't be stockpiling HG's in the yard if I didn't think we had a chance to get something just as nice. Crossing HG to Butterfly and Rosabell. Cross these seedlings to each other and here's hoping. Of course the Candida species x Frosty pink you have would make a start for a wide flared pink hybrid....
WOW so beautiful.. I want them allllllll!!!!!!
Isn't it a shame that their out of our reach now. Oh well, it will just give us more inspiration to come up with one of those ourselves. If they can come up with these beauties I'm sure eventually someone here can also come up with something just as or more beautiful.
i think we will snow. i love the candidas myself.
Oh my! how HUGE of a pot is needed for these? Any ideas how old this would be? Does Yours grow that big?
Mings,
My pot size limit is 5 gallons....anything any larger I can't pick up. Most of my larger Brugs are grown in the ground.
If they get too big you cut them back, the bigger the pot the better they do,Ming, where is sharon PA?
Do you put your pots on a platform on wheels>>> Sun,shade? whats best> I guess you stake these up too!
Sharon, Pa...on the Ohio Pa line Above pittsburgh Pa. near YoungstownOhio
i have a dolly around, and a 14 year old son, but you'll fil up a pot. my first winter, 20 gallon pot we were hauling got frosted, grew back, and in june i put it in the ground with huge roots, roots coming out the bottom already. i have read you can literally pull them out, cut the roots back and repot. i like your idea, mingsmimi, would love to have a huge platform on wheels.
You take your son to the Home Depot ...tomorrow. Spend a few $$ and have him Built you a one!. take a piece of particle board and have them cut it for you and have your son screw in the wheels.....Wham bamm thankyou Mamm
Ming,
I live in zone 5 and find that different types of brugs grow to different sizes in pots and the ground. I had one in the ground that made 7 ft. tall by 8 ft. wide. In pots I have had them grow 6-7 ft. tall but not as wide as those in the ground. Conditions determine a lot. Most of mine get a lot of sun, but some shade during the hottest part of the day. However, that is due to my my lawn having a lot of trees and not by choice. I think I've read that if they get a half day of sun, they will do fine. I also read someplace that the double flowered ones will hold their blooms better if they get shade in the heat of the day. There is just so much information out there now that it is hard to take it all in at one time. That makes this forum a good learning tool. We don't get bombarded with a lot all at once and if it would happen we can still read at our leisure. Main thing, in my opinion, is to be sure to fertilize brugs a lot and watch for bugs/worms. No, the main thing is to enjoy them. They smell wonderful in the early evening to early morning.

I forgot to tell you that in Iowa we get a lot of wind so I do stake my pots of brugs so they won't blow over. If they are planted in the ground, you won't have to worry about them. However, they aren't easy to dig up in the fall.

arlene~just saw in my one book, you know those wooden whiskey barrels people use for planters? Follow me? they took and turned it upsied down. screwed casters on teh bottom and there it was ...planter on wheels.
**Brugie. WOW! Thanks for all that info. :) Keep it coming.
I agree with Brugie, they seem to get bigger in the ground. We can leave ours in the ground all winter and they will come back up in the spring, but the bloom is delayed. I've found that starting them in the green house and then putting them in the ground is best. They don't need nearly as much water and don't blow over in the wind.
My pots are 20-25 gallon size plastic nursery containers with handles. My DH helps me move them in with a dolly. I use osmocote on all the brugs plus extra water soluble fertilizer when I think of it.
Brugies plants had more blooms than mine, so I think I didn't use enough fertilize.
ooohhhhh ..you know,. when you were just talking about your containers. aren;t there KIDS big toy containers with rope handles on them>>> All different colors?? that would work for draggin.. and I saw in my one book where they took the"whiskey barrels" for planters and screwed casters on the bottoms of them and there you had the wheels right on them. I couldn"t grow mine in the ground. I have run out of room. I still have 2 clematis in their pots from the greenhouse I can't find a space for. I need to go VERTICAL!!! Plus, my zone would kill them in the ground. :(
My DH bought me 3 of them for Christmas for my brugs, just gotta figure out who the lucky brugs are gunna be!
Ming, you don't have to save the whole plant each year. Just take some cuttings and they won't take up a lot of space in the house over the winter. Once you see them blooming for you, I'll bet you will find a place for more.
o...you mean you don;t save all teh root and everything. You cut back like a branch>?? One thing is though.I HAVE really run of earth room...I live in town. I don;t have acres of land. Wish I did. no, Pots will have to do for this girl.
Ming, a six inch piece will do. Even smaller pieces will root and don't worry, they will bloom the following summer. Look at the thread about logs. This is just another good idea.
