I am so elated. Gloria's "care package" arrived today and it was much more than I ever expected. There were numerous cuttings and rooted plants and seeds!!! I have planted all but the seeds and have them sitting by a big window. I am just beside myself with enthusiasm and excitement and the warm feeling that someone has shared so much with me.
Gloria you are an angel!!!!!!!!!
I also want to mention that Arlene sent me seeds and they arrived today. I feel like a kid at Christmas. Thank you Arlene for sharing the special seeds - I can hardly wait to see what they will look like.
By the way, how long does it take for a seed to grow and put on a bloom? I wonder if this is going to teach me how to be patient!!
Off to plant my seeds.
Frannie
Care Package Arrival
As a general rule of thumb, if they don't bloom within the first year of growth I toss em, but some keep em for up to 3 yrs before they bloom. And yes, Gloria is the best.
See, we told you these guys are great here. It's like a family.
Calalily - You are right It is like a family at DG. Even being a new member, I feel very comfortable. And since we are family, I decided to go begging and pleading :) for other cuttings. If you can't go to your family - who can you go to?? I learned from DG that there are many varieties and colors. So please won't some of you donate a tiny cutting to a baby in the family. How is that for begging and pleading??? LOL
These are the ones I have:

Wow looks like you have a good start on your collection.
Well, I was going to offer some of mine, but I think she's got all that I do. I will have more later in the year, my new ones are tiny.
Here is my want list, have trades if anyone has:
tonny's arborea ida
maya--gotta double check, local trader promised me a piece when hers grew
amber rose
tropical sunset
lamout...does anyone have this yet? if so i don't blame you for hiding it!
a double yellow
our much desired double pink!!!! btw, how is the double pink club coming?
WAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!
She has more than me!
:-)
Arlene, if you don't get it before mine are ready, I'll still have a double yellow, L'Amour, and Tropical Sunset for you. That is unless I kill them. Will just have to keep in touch.
Arlene, I have several on your want list, they are still tiny but I will share as soon as I have rooted ones (or a piece big enough to root)
I have been printing out all the want-to-haves that people have been listing and I am going to try and get some, so that I will have something to give back to club members. Just give me a little time. I do not have the knowledge that a lot you have nor the experience, but I am a determined person I will do my best find some that are on others wish list. I must admit - a few seem impossible judging by all of your comments. Remember I said want-to-haves not impossibles :)
Arlene, Brugie,
I have Tropical Sunset - isn't this the same as Peaches and Cream - at leat that is what is was told. If it is I have one that is ready I can give to Arlene. Arlene, if you are coming to the 'swap meet' I can hold it for you if you want otherwise I can put it in the mail for you.
I just received some seeds and cuttings from Arlene, just so generous. I am gradually adding to my collection, they are however still only cuttings, some still rooting, some just potted up. The Tropical Sunset is potted, not very big but doing well. Let me know. Brugie, if you loose yours (yea, right) I can send you one of mine. I have 3 small ones. Dee
Dee, sounds like you are doing a great job. i don't think tropical sunset is variegated... i don't have peaches and cream anymore, it grew too slow for me. i have heard maya is faster growing.
thanks to all you brug friends, a great group! and yes, Dee, i plan to be at the swap, hoping spring is here so i can have plenty of cuttings...going to try to do some antique roses, too, the ones that root really easy....
Arlene, I had to go back and check the labels again to make sure. The one I got from Earl says Tropical sunset (Peaches and Cream) the one I got from a mail order co, says the same thing, the one I received in a trade just says Peaches and Cream, but it looks like the other two. Now I think I am confused (not a hard thing to do). Maybe I will bring them to the swap meet and let you experts look at them and tell me the difference. See ya there. Dee
Just wanted to add my thanks to the family. I also have benefited from the generous folks here. You all have been so generous to share with me and I now have a nice collection of seeds and cuttings. I have been surprised at have fast the seeds sprout and the rate of germination.
Gloria, those last seeds you sent have already had about 80%
germination and looks like more coming. Took a tray of seedlings to school to sit in front of a big window yesterday. This spring I hope to have lots to share to say Thank you to all who have shared with me. Once more,
THANK YOU all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arlene,
I am slow, I admit that...but I have gotten almost everyones address into a group name for mass mailing for the Double pink group. As for Amber Rose, only a very few people have Amber Rose and unfortunately I won't have any more until spring to fall of this year. Rest assured with 2 very large HG's blooming and several rooted cuttins...we should have some interesting crosses for next year knock on wood. Of course, I have a slew of Gloria's hybrids, Butterfly's, and Rosabell's out the wazzooo....hoping to get something descent from a cross between them obviously. Rosabell is primarily going to be a pollen donor while Amber Rose is primarily going to be a seed setter....
Rambling as ever,
Brugmansia
Ramble on Brugman. hadn't heard anything yet, just wondering. Seems to me you should get some great crosses out of those, and hopefully your seeds scattered all over will produce them too. this is going to be a great year for brugs!
I am so glad to hear of Catlady's success at germinating seeds. I have never germinated any, but I have some soaked and will be potting them today. I have Gloria and Arlene to thank for giving me that opportunity. I will let all of you know how I am doing.
Brugmansia and Arlene,
Is Rosabell and Isabella the same thing. If not what colors are they. Arlene I got the Isabella from you and forgot to ask what color she is. Dee
Isabella is pink.
