I think it's a wonderful picture. Hopefully you don't have brugs under that stuff

mingsmimi, Welcome to the brug forum :) It is a little dangerous to stay, because it is easy to become addicted to brugs inhere ... (joking) If you become addicted, we are many that shares destiny with you *lol*

Wow!!! Nice wintergarden *lol* We had this much snow before the weekend, but now there is only ice left and it is hard to walk without falling on the bud sometimes *lol*

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

thank you all very much! This is my first time doing all this. I never heard this word before. was just about to look it up. Brugmansias. I thought I was posting this in the regular photos place. Some one tell me. what is a brug? :( don;t everyone laugh at once

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

One of the most beautiful flowers there is. A brugmansia, also sometimes called "Angels Trumpet". It is the object of our obsession!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

AAAAHHHHHOOOHHHHHHH I know what that it now!!!!!! WOW! They can grow them well in New Wilmington(irish would know where that it) but just about 15 miles away where I am.. it is a mystery. Only one place I ever saw grew them, and it was in a pot! They are beauty~ful!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Ming, we will have to share some rooted cuttings with you in the spring so you can enjoy them anytime. Just remind us when you are ready, because we get lost thinking about genes and rooting hormones and hybridizing and forget everything else.

Ming, Brugmansias have the largest and most beautiful flowers you will ever get to see and a wonderful intoxicating scent too. Try and imagine, that a few of them is so large, that you can use them as hats *lol* The largest one would proberly end on the shoulders, if any of us tried to wear it. I phoned with man, that sells them and he had seen them growto 60 cm. long.

Welcome Ming,
I'm sure you too will become an addict just like the rest of us very soon....there is no turning back now. LOL

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

and here all along, I thought I had placed this photo in the wrong spot, guess there are no such things as mistakes, just happy accidents.
I have always liked them, now that I know the other name, (besides the trumpets,) but, like I said.. I have never noticed anyone growing them in my area. Not even ones for sale at my local greenhouses...And believe me,Opening day at the greenhouse is a bigger deal for me than Christmas. !
So, I can grow one in a pot to start so I have good soil? I am zone 5/. please fill me in! :)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

yes you can,I'm in zone 5 !!You'll be the latest victim!!!!Cool, just reel them in in!!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

ALRIGHT! Shade, sun,
I am out of land
I have to try pots.
You'll have to go slow.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

mingsmimi - do you feel like you've fallen down the proverbial rabbit hole??? It just gets curioser and curiouser ~~

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

liz! You are so right! This opens up an entire new world for me. Everyone is so into these! I'll have to look up this info on them that Burgie just sent. :)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

mingsmimi,I grow mine in pots, bring them in in the winter(really in early fall) grow in well lit windows over the winter.Take cuttings if the space is a problem and you need smaller plants. My suggestion, collect LOTS of bags of potting soil and LOTS AND LOTS of large pots!!!Sun or semi shade in the summer, some do better without alot of sun.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

okay! now. define lots. lol
What type of soil does best?
See, the thing I don;t understand is why they aren't sold at any greenhouses
around where I am. You all are so passionate about them. Why aren;t they beging sold?
But, No matter, I am ready ! Some one, send me a seed or a twig or a branch or a root or
What ever !!!!! :) Lock and Load! I am ready!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You gotta love her!!! Lock and Load - HA!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ming, I use a soil less potting mixture with lots of bark and perlite in it. Ground up styrofoam also works to add to the soil. Brugs don't like to have wet feet, so you want the soil to drain well. I think everyone does things differently, but when they talk of lots of pots, it will depend on how many you want to grow. I thought ten was plenty, but I'm up to about 40 now so I'm not sure we have any control once we get going. I'd say minimum size of a pot for full growth should be 5 Gal. but I'm now using 8-12 gallon pots. Couldn't afford to keep buying the nice pots, so I get the ones used for trees, etc. from our local greenhouse. They are plenty big and only about 5 bucks each. Hope this helps.

Shirley

Ming,
Don't you think they might freeze on their way to you house right now. Thoughts anyone?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Iowa is enjoying nice weather right now and we are supposed to be in the 40's for a while, but where do these plants sit overnight. Might be a little too cold. I'd hate to ship out right now just in case.

S.

Ming, you might want to check out the seed trading forum. Someone over there has brug seeds available. Would get you started anyway.

Yes mig Know were that is Glory think your right about freezing unles you send it over nite....;o)

Ming,
I have about 20 Brug seeds left....If you want them email me with your address.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Dang! I went to go soak in the hottub and came back and all this had happened while I was gone!
I agree, Its too cold right now to send plants. Who knows how long they would sit somewhere . I think I will
try the seeds route to start. I have grow lights down my basement. That should work. Learned something
About grow lights last season. You SHOULD turn them "off and on"(not just leave them on)I forgot all about that and my seedlings
went insane~ I do believe. Oh well.! I was just thrilled they did so well. Then. It hit me. DAH!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

If my pods EVER get ripe, I will have seeds too, lol.

Cala,
that's like the pod on Whiskers...I don't remember them taking this long before.....I know they have been on the plant for 5 months now...it's killing me...I want to open them up sooooooo bad.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Glory
We need a support group, someone to call when we are tempted. The pods on Ecuador Pink have been there since August I know, and are a foot long (and still growing I think). I want to rip them open and plant the seeds, lol. This obsession is terrible. A year ago, I would have been happy with one tiny pod.
The bad thing, when I plant them, I want them to immediately come up. When they are up and growing, I want them to bloom.......geez, does this madness ever end?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Ming - I'm pretty new to brugs too. If I can grow them you can too. I've received a lot of cuttings from all these generous brug heads. I'm sure I'll be able to share some extas with a few newbies this spring.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Everyone is just so helpful! Warms your heart.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure I'll have some extras. Hope one or two will be plants that you aren't getting from others. Put my name down as someone to contact for some plants. I'm so forgetful, you don't want to count on me remembering to contact you. Just as Glory.........I'm so confused!!

email address is brugie@lucasco.net

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

thanks! Brugie!
I have to write this down. Seeds from one, Plants from another. Who ever said "Diamonds are a girls best friend"~ didn;t garden!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes I do,infact the watercolor of the brug has inspired me to make a new pattern of brugs.I'm thinking lifesize!!!What do you do?Lead or copperfoil?

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

don;t know about the watercolor, you'll have to clue me in on that.
I only do Copper foil. I would LOVE to learn lead.
I made a big window last year. Its fun to do big scale. How long have you been doing glass? SPILL>>>

CC and ming: a close friend of mine made me a beautiful stained glass of a brug for my birthday. Will post a pic later. I'd love to see more stained glass brugs. Get working girls.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I can't find the link to the painting, its beautiful. Brugcrazy,I'd love to see it.I've done stained glass on and off for 20 years.Mostly large windows and lamps .And I do copper foil too, never done lead .My next project is the tiffiny wisteria lamp.I have everything but the glass, and thats going to be at least 300 bucks so......

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

are you doing the kit one or are you cutting it all out yourself? A friend of mine did that one. Like over 1900 pieces of glass. really nice though. I have only been doing glass for 3 years. but. I have my own studio set up and its great. Love it. Do you get your glass mail ordered/ or go to a glass shop?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm cutting it all my self, that way I get the color combos I want.I'm actually thinking of doing it in pinks, cause I love the pink wisteria, but my favorite color is purple so thats probably what I'll do(maybe both).I think on my pattern it's 2,300 peices, plus those big top peices that represent wood.I have a room in my house everyone calls my dungeon.Thats my studio.Got my cable tv,a big table ,shelves, and NO ONE goes in there. Its very gloomy. No brugs in there,Lead fumes are not good for plants....or maybe that food plants - wow, another room for brugs....
