After just two days belonging to the club, I feel that my head is swimming with information. I think that it will take a while to settle in. I have read all the pages of the forum and sub pages. Excitement has already set in - I have already requested seeds and plants from several of you and I can hardly wait. I hope to get to know many more of you. What a wonderful welcome to the club you have given me. THANKS! Frannie

Lots of Thank Yous
Welcome Frannie. This is a great forum & you'll have more cuttings than you know what to do with next year. I got my first brug over the summer and now I have 50 or so rooting and a zillion seeds going. I only wanted to have one or two... and now look at me!! It's a fun addiction tho ;-)
Frannie,
You are so welcome.....I just love being part of getting another person hooked on Brugs. LOL
Ditto, Gloria. Frannie, you just have no idea yet what you are in for. At least you shouldn't have to fight cold weather conditions much like we do up here. My home is more of a greenhouse now. Wouldn't give up all my babies from my new friends for anything though.
Shirley
Poppysue - I can't believe you you got your first cutting this summer and now you have over 50 and a zillion seeds.
Yes, Gloria I have gotten addicted and I am so excited and looking forward to new cuttings and seeds. I guess I had better get my husband started on that greenhouse NOW. Thanks to all of you - I am addicted and maybe I will have 50 by next year and a zillion seeds like Poppysue.
Frannie
Zone 9A, you don't need a greenhouse!! do you? that is a great zone for brugs, most will take a light/short frost and still keep blooming. when you are under 32 for hours, oops.....
Oops is right! Last night was a colder night than was forecasted. This morning I looked at my Brugs that I had been moving in and out of the garage for several weeks and saw all their poor leaves hanging wilted. I left them out last night because it was not suppost to get below 38. The few brugs that I have are large and in pats and full of blooms. I will just have to wait to see if the buds bloom. And would you believe today the temperature was 68-70 - kind of warm. Tomorrow is suppost to be 78. That is the trouble here in my zone - you just never know. If I had a green house, I could leave them in there and they would get plenty of light. Oh well, things could be worse. I do enjoy a very long blooming season. The summer heat is what slows them down here in Texas. Frannie
Frannie,
Did you change your name? I like it.
I have a question. How big do you normally make cuttings? I have seen anywhere from about 2 inches to 8 inches or so? What is the norm when trading or sending out cuttings? Dee
Dee
When sending cuttings, the little tiny ones (tip cuttings) usually don't travel too well. I like to get cuttings of hard wood, that are at least 4 to 6 inches long. If one just rolls these in damp paper towels or newspaper and uses more paper for padding, they usually do just fine. JMHO
Good morning to all of you. Yes, I did change my ID last night. fkeonitz just did not seem to fit in, even though it is derrived from my name and is in my email address. I have only been with the club since the 4th and I decided it would be best to change it right away rather than later on.
Thank you Gloria - I am glad that you like it. It is going to be 75 degrees here today. Beautiful weather for working in the yard.
Franny, Like your new name. It's much easier to spell.LOL
I envey all you southerners with your warm weather. Right now it's 20 degrees here and I'm sitting in my flannel nightgown watching it snow again.DH moved my computer so now I can see out the big window that looks out on the back yard and the birdfeeders.Of course I still have to peek through three ft long icecicles hanging off the roof to see anything.Summer will be great though because my Brug garden will be right outside the window.
Snow,
I know that feeling...been there done that. Does your DH still work? If not y'all could become Snow Birds. We have a lot of Snow Bird down here....they live here for the winter and return home in the spring. Maybe we should become Heat Brids....live here in the winter and go North in the summer. LOL
Glad to have you Brug Nanny-rest assured there will be future brug trades on this forum. I can't wait to have some over 2 ft tall-just have to wait till next year to start growing mine again from these rooted cuttings as everthing in the ground has been up rooted finally. Had to really get in and get dirty to get some of those old roots out. Lol, and to think most of mine are only a few months old in this yard. I do still have one impossible seedling in the ground though to be sure.
Glory, DH is still working trying to make 10 years so his retirement will lock in. If he thought he could find a job down south in the winter and get his old job back in the summer he'd be packing right now.I would'nt mind going south for the winter as I know we would be coming back to see grand children in the summer.OH well, nice to dream about it. Maybe someday.
