light

Has anyone tried those Halogen work lights as grow lights?
I have one in my greenhouse and the plants within range of it seem to be doing well. They are advertised as being closest to natural light and are relatively cheap as compared to grow lights.I think I will try some more.Places
such as Lowes and Home Depot carry these.
These lights also give off quite a bit of heat which is welcome this time of year.

I haven't tried them, but did look. Do you have to use a ceramic fixture with them? As long as you have to pay the light bill, you might as well get some heat from them too. I'm sure they will work like the HID lights and those things are really expensive. I read that the HID bulbs need to be replaced every year as they lose their umph. If that is the case, I'll replace mine with a Home Depot bulb. Glad you brought this subject up, JT. Another trip to the city is in order.

JT,
I have halogen lights in my greenhouse and never thought about keeping them on for warmth...they are kinda like spot light.
Are they expensive to run all night?

The ones that we use as work lights are already in plastic fixtures(really little stands). As for expense of running them I don't know.Until this month they were always running on someone elses electricity :>).You may hear me scream when next month's bill comes in.
