I know this doesent belong here but you guys are like family!I am just such a baby,I am soooo bummed out.I got bumped off my job yesterday.OK ,I know I should be thankful that I even have a job, especially one that pays well, but I was so comfortable with the hours and the run,and to make matters worse ,I had to bump someone else so that I would still have a regular run, otherwise I go on call, and not know from day to day when or if I'm working. Now I have to work from 11:30 pm till around 10:00 am and I ,(this is the worst of it)I have to work thru saturday mornings.I know ,what a sniveler,I know it's probably temorary, till the guy who bumped me get his run back ,and I get a brand new tractor on this new run......But I loved my run,now I have to go to Albany NY every day.Sue,I know you have rotten hours too ,but, but,I need to snivel.I'll put a brug picture on so this is legit.....

oh man! so sorry bout that. And part of what makes this forum so great is that we are there for each other! Maybe it won't be long.
so this is legit too, what is that gorgeous brug?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, hope you like it better than you think, and it doesn't last long. Around Christmas i wanted a whining forum, something where i could let it out. Gotta be bummed for a while, such a change.
you are right though, it sure is better than being laid off. i hate hunting jobs and worryiing about money. Is that the mama of your seed pod? ttys

Hope it doen't take long till you are back on normal hours. Nice pic! ;o)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

CC What a darn BUMMER! I work nights - but I've done it for 13 yrs. DH & I both have the same hours so it works out for us. I'm not even sure what you do? Driving a truck? Make sure you get your sleep! Don't let this blow bother you too much - it's hard to do ... but turn the other cheek and make the best of it. It's not worth getting all worked up over it cause then you'll really be miserable. I know it doesn't make you feel better but ...Stuff like that happens all the time in our PO office. We have a new plant manager "The hatchet MAN" we call him. He's reorganizing the place. Guys that have been there 30 yrs suddenly have their jobs "abolished" and are forced on to screwy hours with lousy days off. It stinks. Hopefully it will only be a temporary thing for you and you'll have your regular run back before you know it. Maybe you'll like it better than think.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Snivel on, everybody needs it sometimes. Hope it's only temporary. At least you'll have time to smell the evening brugs before work. Good Luck!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks guys,I needed it!!The brug is versicolor peach,it does have a pod on it but they are not ripe yet, getting impatient, but something to look forward to.I crossed it with suavenolens pink. There won't be as many seeds as in my last pod but I'll be giving seeds to those who want them.Poppy sue,I feel for you, they do that to us too,I've heard they do it to get rid of "the dead wood" which ,as it was explained to me,is the older workers who no longer put much effort into the job and are just sliding along till retierment(I have no problem with older worker so don't get me wrong. Its managment that does). We have some drivers who are actually losing money by working. They would get more on their pension then to work everyday. Some don't want ex wives to get the pension ,some have young children who would not be covered under the pensions insurance .So they (managment)cut jobs(like they are doing now) force the old timers, onto rotten hours, and try to force them into retiring. So people like me ,at the bottom of the food chain get gobbled up,and spit out with the fall out.Thats why I'm pretty sure its temporary, but I still hate it.And ,as I always say,you guys are THE BEST!!!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

IF U GOT THE SEEDS READY AND WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME AND EMAIL ME TO LET ME KNOW THANK YOU..

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, just snivel away. We all have problems one time or another and have needed others to help us get through the rough times. I can send a box of tissues and if you don't need them for sniveling, you can use them as filters in the bottom of your brug pots so the dirt doesn't filter out. How is that for making this post legit? Hang in there. Most things have a way of working out for the best in the long run.

I just feel like a jerk 'cause other people have really terrible things happen to them and I'm feeling sorry for my self.It just knocked my self confidence to the basement, but I'm glad you guys were there for me!!

Hi Crestedchik, Who do you drive for? I used to drive cross country years ago. My brother drives tanker locally. Delivers gas to area stations at night. The company he used to drive for sold out, everyone got moved or booted all together. It is just hard for everyone right now. My husband lost his job after 9-11. He worked aircraft repair. I had been staying at home with my 2 year old. Now I have to try to get used to working again. It's hard on my baby too. She is a moma's girl. My husband hasn't been able to find anything permenant yet, just a couple of temp positions so far. We just have to have faith that things will get better.

Keep smiling! :-)

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Hey, just read what Brugie has to day...... she is so right. Offers the tissue and it can be used for something else also, but go back and read her last two lines.... just exactly what I would say. She is so right.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

CC, Hang in there. It will probably get back to normal before you know it.For a few years I worked the day shift and then one day they decided to alternate the shifts on everyone.I wound up on the 11pm to 7am shift and hated the idea of it. After I worked it for 6 mo they wanted to put me back on days and I didn't want to go back. Stayed on nights for several more years till I had to retire.
The one good thing about it for you is there won't be as much traffic that time of night.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks guys, the hours I had were not great by other peoples standard either.I started at 2:50am and worked till 1pm or so.But I loved those hours, would prefer 4am but thats outta luck for years to come.I would go in on Sunday nite / Monday mornng and be done by 1pm on Friday. Now I start on Monday nite / Tues. morning and have to work Saturdays, which if I end up stuck on it,is going to interfere with going to poultry shows,(which are usually 2 to 4 hours away)which is a big part of my life,a lot of them are on Saturdays, and you have to be there before 8:30 am,and because its such a late start on friday nite, you can't "call in sick" because they are generally out of drivers by then. Not going to really worry about it till March or April, when the show season starts.Greenleaf,I drive doubles for UPS,and no,I don't ship my plants thru them, way to expensive!Who did you drive for when you were working ? Sorry to hear about your husband.I can't even imagine my Hubby being out of work.Thats one reason though that I bumped the other guy instead of going "on call".With the economy the way it is ,some of the low seinority guys that are "on call" are going "on unemployment"Which ,if you really think about it ,doesent seem to bad in the winter, not driving in the snow.......But the bills won't get paid from what you make on that. And I am very lucky to have a job with whats going on in the country right now.My sisters husband was an air traffic controller when the strike happened years and years ago.So he was out of work.He ended up staying home with their 2 young kids while my sister continued to work. And now ,years later, they have 5 kids and he is still MR Mom,and a very good one.He does woodworking on the side.So somethimes things do happen for a reason.Snowhermit,I think thats the reason I liked my hours, very little traffic,I'd go thru Binghamton, and Scranton before the rush hour and by the time I'd start heading north, the rush hour was over.I don't like "DAY" jobs,I was "on call" for the last 2 years, till August, and when I would work days,I hated it.By the time I got home ,there was no time to do anything outside. The up side to this is I told my DH that since I'd be going to bed around noon, and not getting up till around 7 or 8,that HE would be incharge of cooking!!!I'd rather shovel manure than cook.LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC you have great spirit and i LOVE your sense of humor. hoping this is over for you soon, and is so true that sometimes what seems so bad works out for the best...happened to me right before my mom died. i got to spend more time with her, had a couple of months off before i went back to work and have typed at home since. i had been there 12 years, had been the office/billing manager for 7 then did dictation for two years. three docs asked me if it was what i really wanted to do, said was fine with them, had a reputation for being a really good transcriber. a very insecure lady replaced me as manager and was so intimidated, told everyone not to ask me anything, etc etc, the collection rate fell 30% soon after i started typing. my mom was dying of cancer so a kind lady was coming in and working for me a couple of hours almost everyday to give me more time, plus two little kids, they changed the rules to you can't do that, etc. well the witch became my supervisor and within 4 days she fired me. it was such a mess. but i knew stuff she would never know, doing the job and being there from the ground up. she got fired about 6 months after me. wouldn't have happened except the docs were trying to get out of the management, leaving it to a bigwig who came in, she didn't know her stuff either. i am so glad to be out of the mess, no office politics! no listening to a ticked doc yell! no attitudes from the employees..supervised 17-18 people at one time, don't miss it for nothing!! and i was here to be home when my kids were, take them to zillions of practices, knowing who was here with them and what they pretty much were doing.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Arlene,is that what you do?Type and transcribe?I wish I had taken typing in school.I still type with 1 finger ,the hunt and peck method, although, latley I have been using "2" fingers!!!And you get to stay home!!!Although,I know what your saying about office work.I know I couldn't do that!Sorry girls ,but working with women,no way,we are ALL way to catty for that(no offence ment catlady)I do like working with men, they treat me like one of the boys.To work in an office and have a witch tell me how to do my job,I'd rather deal with sexual harrasment anyday!....You did the right thing. And you seem very happy with your choice. Is it hard to work and look out in the garden,thinking... hhuummm,if I just go out there for a few minutes,I'll come back and work fresh....and then end up coming back in to work 6 hours later.....I know that would happen to me.You must be very disaplined. And I wish I had been at home with my kids when they were young,I had to work 3 jobs to make ends meet when my x and I split,my baby sitter was making more money than me.I was a part-timer at ups,it took 11 years to get enough seinority to get a full time job,it different down south, some of them get full time in a year or 2,so if anyone down there needs a job,Go to UPS,part-time sucks but full time will be well worth the wait!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

could really use the money a job would bring in right now, but driving/lifting is out of the question. I'm praying we can hold on until spring when we don't have to buy propane anymore. House should be paid off before winter hits again, and then I don't ever have to worry about working again. if we can just get there...

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Yes and yes... my computer is at corner windows, east and south, and i'll think...that plant needs watering and off i go, working under self made pressure all the time to keep up. going to try to mend my ways, all caught up after both docs took christmas off. The DH drives, great job, for PFG, delivers food to cracker barrel and other restaurants like that. 4 days, runs with a co driver, 2 long and 2 short days. good benefits.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Arlene, does he ever come up this way?we have crackerbarrels!Bonnie,it is a VERY physical job, loading and unloading,I had to lift up to 70lbs over my head ,by myself, anything over 70 we could ask for help.At 40 years old it was getting to me,so I wouldn't want to see you try it.But there are clerking positions, and the benifits are great! That is soooooo great about your house, then you can take out a mortgage on a green house, write it off as your winter home!!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, right now 2 fla runs, one to alabama and one to SC. they switch routes every six months. once he was going to TN and back twice a week, he took a bunch of plants with him and traded with a lady who lived about 20 miles from where he stayed at night, nice trade, but the next time i asked he told me it was "illegal"...

tig, you are so lucky to have the mortage paid in your sites! maybe you can sell some of your babies to a local nursery or something to help tide you over. you sure have pretty grandbabies and a pretty place up there.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

actually selling some to a nursery has been in my mind, but how do you approach them? Have thought of selling the named ones I have (Ins. Gold, Dr Seuss types) on ebay even. just thinking :) We have a friend here who sells cuttings to pay for her brug habit, have often thought of doing it myself.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Do it!In the spring I sell my pink lily of the valley on e-bay.I can't beleive how much people pay for them.I was selling 10 plant(pips) for 30-45 bucks.I wouldn't pay that for them, but if you look in catalogs they go for alot more.Arlene, you can sell the seeds!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I've tried to talk another member into selling on ebay. And I agree Arlene, sell them seeds. The ones you sent me are just fabulous and I can't believe the crosses! I'd have thought people would have snapped them up already. What I'd really be happy doing is setting up something with a nursery for brugs and passionflowers. Maybe even daturas.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig, in florida you have to have a license but they don't cost to much, i have a friend who has a license who has offered to sell some for me (if i ever quit giving them away!!!!!!!!!) i am going to try to sell a few at the flea market, maybe farmers market, maybe on the side of the road, maybe at a yard sale....

CC, i am selling brugman's seeds. i wouldn't have dreamt of taking his plants and seeds without a trade, and money is a good way to trade if you ask me seeing how i don't have exotic brugs to trade! the watersorb i found i think is a very good deal, but still a lot of money. listed them for trade, but likewise am selling them unless people have a good trade. just think how much brugman must have spent with all his hybridizing!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm planning on a 'yard sale' that is just plants. People do it around Atlanta all the time, it's just a matter of what do I start? Has to be more than brugs. But I do have a good amount of tropicals that would sell to the right people. And I too can't even imagine what brugman has spent. When he started buying hybrids, they were up to $250 a piece!!! Just hanging on til spring:)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i love to find plants at yard sales, buy them every chance i get, and the pots too. have gotten large pots 10-20 gallons very cheap. was going to go out this morning, but 24....figured i would take another week off, not too many right after the holidays and with the cold anyway.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I live so far out of the way that we can't even get people out here for garage sales, but they have a farmers market every saturday morning in the city.I'm thinking on selling some brugs and cuttings from my regular brugs there.Maybe some Pink LOV.Opps I forgot,I work saturday mornings now, well , hopefully in the spring.....Arlene,I want to buy some seeds!!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

There's a couple of places around here that sell plants by thr roadside. Just a table with pots of assorted perennials and a money box to drop your money in. I don't know how much they make ... but they keep doing it so it can't be too bad. I did the e-bay thing for a long time. I made pretty good money just selling seeds. I felt like a crook sometimes - the prices would get so high. But that was before they had a zillion seed sellers on there. Now they have so many that many of the auctions go unbid.

I'd go into selling junk on e-bay if I had the time. I think it was gardenwife that was saying you should make $10 per auction to make it worth the time. I love yard sailing and going to the local auctions. It would be fun to make it into a little home business.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that I just brought my daughter home from the hospital. She had a 104* temp last night. They kept her overnight and gave her some intraveneous fluids and antibiotics, and ran all sorts of test. They are still not sure what it is, but she is doing a whole lot better.
Crestedchik, I used to drive for TSMT out of Joplin, MO. Everything from radioactive waste to explosives to glassware to canned food. Even had a load of feather pillows at one time. It was a lot of fun, but that was before the kids. :-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OOOHHHH! Just what you needed!Do you still have insurance? Is she really ok?And are you NUTS?Radioactive/explosives?Not me -no way!!!!People have said that I have a death wish but that would be tempting fate.Do you still have your CDL?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

GreenLeaf, I hope she is feeling better.
CC, I drove with my DH when he worked for Revlon Cosmetics. We went from Edison, NJ to Phoenix, AZ every week. I really loved it, but then he got on with a union company and I went to college. After his company sold out, he started helping me in the green house.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

GL, I sure hope she's better, so scary when they're that sick! Keep us informed!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Calla, did you ever drive /or want to drive?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, in the early 70s my dad told me i should drive a semi when i went out, that way i could sleep where i was, or at least probably wouldn't kill MYSELF. shame on me, that life seems long ago and far away! isn't it funny how many truck drivers and DH truck drivers are here...

Greenleaf, so scary to have a child sick like that, how old?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm trying to picture Arlene, purple hair and all, tooling down the highway in a Peterbilt,a large brug plant airbrushed on the sleeper, waving a cane at the 4 wheeler that cut her off....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, yes, I drove. I had a CDL for years and finally didn't renew it because I didn't ever plan on driving again. We had a Kenworth and then got a new White, that was much easier to drive and rode better than the Kenworth. I got stopped in Arizona once because I didn't look old enough to be driving, I was skinny and looked like a teen ager.

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi,
Sorry guys, My daughter is 13, but still moma's baby. She is still running a fever and has a bad headache. At least she has been able to eat a little. I am going to take her in to the doctor in the morning again. Still not to good. I am really worried about her. I'll let you all know how she is doing.
We lost our insurance when my husband was laid off from work. He lost his job after 9-11. He worked aircraft repair.
We will make it though.
I'' talk to you all later. :-)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

GL - hope she's on the mend & gets better soon.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I hope she is feeling better soon.

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi everyone,
Wanted to let you all know that my daughter is feeling a lot better. I think she might make it. lol
She hasn't had a fever since earlier yesterday and she has been eating a little. I think the worst is over.
Thanks for the well wishes.
Smiles!
