Looking for Tithonia seed....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think this is the seed I'm looking for. The blooms I saw looked like a coneflower somewhat but were orange. If anyone has any for SASE or a trade of some kind, let me know. Otherwise I'm placing yet another order. Wish I could get a little more organized.

Brugie if you don't find any - I have some seeds that are older. I'll send them when I get the pepper seed. BTW - I did make the order. I'll wait till it comes to let you know how much. Just to make sure they have them. The tithonia are the tall variety. They get about 5 feet tall. The butterflies love them!

Poppysue,

Thanks, but I have had several offers and have sent off my SASE's. It is time to go on another hunt now. I'm thinking that I SHOULD have a Senecio Confusus AKA Orangeglow Vine. Might just order this one already growing. Like to get some early blooms from something. Can't wait to feed the butterflies and hummingbirds from my flower gardens. I can just sit and watch for hours.

Again, thanks.

If it's the Mexican Flame vine that you want, I have some started and will share with you as soon as it's warm enough to ship.

Thanks Cala,

That is the vine I'm looking for, I'm sure. Will you let me buy them from you, please? Still wish you would get a web site up so we could all buy our plants from you.

Is this a hybrid seed or can I save some seeds from the blooms? Cuttings? Picking your brain, you see.

Thanks,

Ms. Brugie, i have the mexican flame vine but it is kind of funny....blooms in spring and fall. thought it was where i had it planted for a while. the tithonia is wonderful, they just keep growing and spreading out, getting bigger. i didn't save seeds cause this was my second year with them and they volunteer so well.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hope your cold weather doesn't cause a change in your volunteer plants and whether or not they come up again. I can rarely count on volunteer anything. Maybe a marigold or two might come up, but that is rare. About the only thing that does come up like crazy is the cleome' and I don't want them anymore. I'd just like to work some tall plants in with the back border and also thought the orange vine would be pretty mixed in with some of the passifloras. Call me crazy, but I like things all mixed in when it doesn't hurt anything.

i like mixed up too. went to 16 twice in a week last winter, still had volunteers. i love mexican stuff cause it always seems to come back or reseed.

The Flame Vine I've only started from cuttings. The seeds didn't seem to be viable or to even have anything in them. The Flame Vine should be perennial for Arlene, it might even become a pest there. It's not hardy here,I just bring cuttings in. They are so easy to root and sometimes even root where they are touching the trellis or ground. I've got some with your name on them.
I will get that site up one of these days. Our regular web page along with our URL was bought by another company when our host(Etera) went bankrupt. I don't know how this new company is going to do, but I think they said I could have my own store front there. I will have to check the communication I've had with them to see.

Calla,

I live on the NW side of Florida opposite of Arlene and the flame vine here dies back once the frost comes. I have tried to grow them from the seed but no luck. They don't come back here either, so if I want to keep them I have to take cuttings.

Thanks Susie, I know it won't become a pest here with our temperatures.
