okay
i've been thinking about this for a while surmising what to do and if its even possible, but i guess the best way to see is to start...
i will be driving cross country and back this summer. going through the north and then coming home south. that's as far as my itiniery goes. i figured i'd start driving and see where it goes.
then idea!
what if i started a plant box and take it from house to house across the america? it would work the same way the herb box is now, except it would be in person instead of the mail.
i've never seen more than vancouver, the bay area, and LA and of course here-WA. it would be exciting to see different places in the states. i'm also taking an art course and will be drawing american life and sceneries as i go along so seeing many different places will be interesting.
do you think its possible?
should i trace a route or take addresses and visite as many as i can and apologize to those who live in say missouri?
a cross country plant box experiment
If you would be going through Madison WI on an early Saturday AM, I could introduce you to one of the best Farmer's Markets around (fresh coffee, pastries-----). It starts the last Sat. in April, but is really blooming by end of April, when it has more that just bedding plants.
Quynh, you could hand-deliver those lamb's ears plants to me and I'll show you the gardening sites around middle Tennessee!!!! Just let me know when to look for you! (grin!!!)

Stop by my house I live near Cleveland, home to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. And; I know ALL the great gardens in the area; The Holden Arboratum, Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Sheophly Gardens & one of the largest collections of grasses in the world is at our Zoo. Plus I'll have plants (everyone must take home a plant when they visit me) MicheleN
Im in michigan here and your welcome to stop by. Just flat farm land around here-but there are hills and waterfalls to the north. I have plant to share always!
see ya,
dori
Oh yeah, by all means, stop by Patty's then mosey on down to Louisiana and bring me my milk goats! I'll make the gumbo or maybe boiled crawfish! LOL! Lisa
If you stop to see Go Vols in middle Tennessee, you have to come to east Tennessee and see Gatlinburg and the Great Smokey Mountains and me. and get some coleus plants while you are here!!
The little town of Buffalo, WV here. Lots of peace and quiet, beautiful scenery and sunsets up here on the mountain. And we mustn't forget the 18 and counting (still having babies) goats, dogs, cats and local wildlife. Plenty to sketch. Stop by and see us if you come this direction :~) We'll have a BBQ with all the fixins, ever had spiced cabbage on the grill? Yummmm! Or perhaps we'll have Mountain oysters, LOL!!!
oh my gosh all this offers for food is enough incentive to drive!!
go vols are you teryy? in which case i'm sending them to you today.
i'm so excited and making plans. going to start building a frame for my truck.
we're going out east to help adrian's folks move. they need to get out of concrete jersey to north carolina.
i will probably be leaving here in mid july and then back here by the end of september. the reason why i'm making plans so soon (other than overwhelming excitement) is that i'm leaving the coutry in the begining of june. no daves garden for month an a half :(..
Yes, Quynh....Terry and Go_Vols are one and the same. (But there are already so many Terri/Terry's on DG, I stick with Go_Vols for most postings, and try to cut down on confusion!) I'll look for the lamb's ears in the next few days - thanks for sharing!
You have quite a summer planned out, huh? We'll miss you while you're gone, and we'll want to hear all about your journey. And you know, you probably could plan out a trip that included visits to many of the DG members - we'd feed you well, and show you the sites of our respective areas!
I'm beginning to think that I should pack up the old ambulance, with plants and a laptop of course, and head out myself. My shop is closing in June (maybe?) and my house is payed-off, I'll rent it out to cover the gas and go vist fellow gardeners. I'm not too young to retire, am I? (34) The food sounds great.
the old ambulance michele? that would be an interesting vehicle go in. 34 is not too young to retire, that's amazing if you can. oh to have enough time and finances to do half of the things i'd like to in this lifetime...

Quynh, If you're in Northern Illinois during the second weekend of July, we have our "Garden Glory" tour of ten local home gardens, in addition to the Klehm Arboreatum and Anderson Japanese Gardens. Otherwise, there are plenty of fun public gardens here in Rockford... Kathy
Too bad you aren't passing thru Missouri. I'm neighbors to what I hear is the most likeliness state capital building to the US Capital. It really is beautiful. I get to see it everyday since it is just a few blocks from me on my very street.
ruby i will definetly be going to south jersey. medford to be exact. this is where we need to end up.
kathy i think will be going to illinois since i have family over there and they will be very unhappy with me if i dont' stop by.
angel i wish i could visit every where, but even 2 months will not be enough. but i have something similiar here too let me post a picture for you.
thank you soooooooooooo mmmuuuuuchh everyone. i'm going to gathering for the plant box so hopefully you'll have much to chose from. can i email you individually as i start working out a travel plan? i think will give up my trip to thailand so i can better prepare for this trip.
Quynh, you have a standing invitation to come stay awhile if you find yourself this far south, okay?
And the lambs ears are doing great - thanks so much! The oregano looks wonderful, too - I can't wait to get everything out in the garden this spring!
And my daughter was absolutely ENCHANTED by the origami cranes - she thought they were the coolest thing she had seen in a long time!
I live in N.C. What part are you going to? I live close to Chimney Rock, and 35 miles from Charolette.Have a good trip but I defently would not give up Thailand and all those seeds to sneak back home!!
Quynh,
By all means, if you can stop here, you are more than welcome! What a fun trip! Kathy
