Brugs Frozen

FSH, TX

So sad, this morning I came outside and the leaves, flowers...everything was frozen solid. I can only guess as to how extensive the damage is, most times when the weather just dips into the 32-28 range for a wee bit you get leaf damage and such-sometimes damage isn't visible for a few hours after the sun rises. When the damage is visible before that-well then one knows some of the branchs have surely deadened and perhaps some of the trunk. Glad we picked what we did last night Arlene. Just wish you had of picked more.

Say it aint so!!!! i have some patchy frost in my yard, most things still look good right now. 2 small ones in pots took hits i can see. was feeling leaves, they felt warm and good. culebra felt nice and warm, blooms look the same to me.

hope you got those with the beautiful leaves protected.

So sorry to hear that. Hope it didn't get any of your seed pods. I didn't think it got that cold down there.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Cala, last winter was terrible, 2 nights is a row 16, a week of below freezing and highs in the 40s. can count on some frost sometime during the winter.

I won't know how extensive the damage is until I get home. I think all of my Double white seed may be a gonner though. Culebra seed is good though as I brought her inside. Not to worry, I will only make better crosses next time Tig.

so sorry! I know you were hoping to get by :(

Oh dear, I sure hope they're ok.

Tig, I still haven't checked on my Double white x Candida pink seed further south. I bet its okay. Its a few months behind the other seedpods though. Never put all your eggs in the same basket as they say.

Oh Gosh!! I would be sick. I can't let anything die around here unless it is something I no longer want and brugs would not be in that catagory. Hope it wasn't a hard enough freeze to totally kill. Eric, you sent me a double white. Can you tell me what the name of it is? Thanks.

FSH, TX

Double whites I send out are always Candida species.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh Eric, That's too bad. Please let us know when you get home the extent of the damage.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Eric, don't toss the seed pods too soon. If the leaves are frozen, cut them off, cut the tips off the branches and then cut the stem below the pods and bring it into your green house. Put the stem in a big pot of soil and keep it warm and moist. I've done this twice and it worked!! The pods are still growing and maturing and now the stem is finally sending out roots and new leaves.

I don't know if this works for brugs ,but many times, when we get a frost,if you get to the plants BEFORE the sun hits them, spray them down with a hose, for some reason it keeps most of the plants alive.I've done it many times with peppers!!!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Eric, you hve my deepest sympathies, but at least you have cuttings right?

:(

I have done the same as crestedchik. spray the plant down with water before the sun hits it and it will help did this up in Mass with all my gardens would have annuals until we had a good snow fall.

brugman, same here....strange, one leaf burnt on an insignis pink....2-3 leaves here and there. lots with nothing wrong with them. hope you got my email, hope it is working!!!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Finished the tour, hit 32, don't see any damage. Brugman, how did your doubles etc fair??????

Woodstock, ON(Zone 6B)

Crested Chick and Irish are right. For some reason the water on plants before sunrise will save a lot of them. We do this up north all the time. Use this trick next there is a more sever frost.
